Happy Post: Darklight Convention

Oct 10, 2022 21:35

Hey gang!

Rumours of my demise are greatly exaggerated.  I have, in fact, been having a ball at my last con of 2022 in Paris.

The Darklight Convention is a great little convention.  I meet my good friend, Wendy, from Antwerp, there and we have a great fun time.  It attracts great guests, and is really well organised.

The guests this weekend were:  Mark Sheppard, Mark Pellegrino, Alaina Huffman, Julian Richings, David Haydn-Jones, DJ Qualls and Jim Beaver, and they really threw themselves into the spirit of the whole event.

It was the first Paris con ever for Julian, DJ and Alaina, and it seemed like they had a whale of a time :)

I had two meet and greets.. One with Julian - who was so adorably personable and enthusiastic, and interesting too.  He told us that he originally read for Pestilence and was told he was Death six months later.  He also talked about his choice to play Death in an understated way, rather than overdoing the menace and being too over the top.  He played Death in the manner of a well-intentioned but exasperated uncle to Dean, and he explained that Jensen's brilliant and generous acting opposite him made it so easy for him to do that.

I also had a meet and greet with David Haydn-Jones, and he was more interested in finding out more about us!  However, he did tell us, regarding the Covid-affected finale, that if things had gone as planned, Arther Ketch made it into the Roadhouse in Dean's heaven. He was disappointed that it never came to be, but he was pleased that Ketch finally got closure on his redemption arc.

We talked about a men of letters spin off in the alternative universe where Henry never died and was Ketch's boss, so David challenged us to go away and write it!!

But anyway, here are my mugshots:

Alaina and I did a 'drunk friends at a hen party' pose

David always cosplays Ketch on the Saturday.  And this Saturday, he had a certain resemblance to another certain dashing assassin...
I make a very cut-price Bond girl unfortunately!

Recreating a favourite pose with DJ

I just wanted a lovely bear hug with Bobby

Poor Julian - I wanted the Scooby Doo pose where we follow each other doing the scooby walk.  But Julian didn't have his glasses so couldn't see my reference pictture, and my complete inability to explain what I wanted in a way any intelligent human being could understand resulted in this ... which is adorably funny!

Mark Pellegrino was my first photo, so I just went for a finger clicking pose to keep things simple to start off with!

Indulging in a bit of Crowley love with Mark Sheppard

As usual, I took some artwork to get signed:

On Saturday night we had a party with the guests.  The theme was Hell (yes, only in the Supernatural fandom can you have a Hell-themed party), and a good time was had by all.  The guests came and joined us at our table throughout the evening and we had a good chat with all of them.  DJ as telling us about a hot guy he was crushing on at one of the other tables.  We all encouraged him to go for it, but unfortunately for DJ, hot guy was straight and in a relationship!

There were red and orange feathers on all the tables, and David was putting a feather from each table in his hair.  When he got to our table he was very well feather-endowed:

We said he looked like Ketch if he had just survived a really violent fight with a Griffon.  I reckon he was in the process of plucking it ready for dinner - Ketch would probably enjoy a nice bite of roast griffon after a busy day's slaughter!

I just thought I'd finish off with this gentleman who is a regular at every Darklight con.  He's actually a member of the staff team and he's a cupid cosplayer, known as the naked angel.    I just love watching the faces of first-time guests who've never seen him before when they first clock him!! :D

darklightcon, happy post, happy dizzo, paris
