Snowflake Day 1

Jan 08, 2017 16:09

I've been seeing this popping up all over my friends feed for the last few days, and I remember it running from past years.  I've never taken part in the Snowflake Challenge before, but I figured that I'd give it a go!  I know I'm late to the the party, but hey ho -- I'll blame the traffic or something ...

So, here goes ...

Day 1.  In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Okay, so my first self-rec is my multi-chapter fic Blood Brothers.

Of all the long fics I have written, this is the one that I think I'm most proud of due to the amount of historical research I ended up doing and the complexity of the case I worked into it.
Oh, and Sam and Dean dressed as gladiators ...
I'm also rather fond of the banner I made to go with it!

On AO3

My second self rec is another multi-chapter fic, Number Fifty

Again, I'm proud of this one because it centres around London, and takes a little London heritage into account.  I've always liked this fic for two reasons, I enjoyed writing the case which I based very loosely around one of London's most famous ghost stories, and secondly I indulged my hurt/comfort plot bunny to the max!

On AO3 - warnings for character torture

My last self rec is my very first pastel portrait of Dean.

For very many years after leaving school, although I was totally comfortable in drawing horses and other animals, I had convinced myself that I wasn't very good at drawing people, and so I didn't do it.  I had no cause to and no inspiration to compel me to try.  Then I discovered Supernatural, and after a couple of years of being exposed to the incredible talent there is in this fandom, I felt inspired to try once again.  My first couple of attempts were pretty dire, and seemed to bear out my low opinion of my ability, but as I began to get my eye in, the work began to flow, and suddenly, there I was, producing people portraits that I was happy with!

Why am I reccing Dean?  The reason I'm reccing this picture is that it was the first Dean portrait that I drew that I was actually happy with.  I had a fair few false starts, and I was beginning to think I'd never master drawing Dean.  He's so bloody handsome!  It was daunting to the point of intimidating to try to replicate that sort of perfection!

Even now, although I've managed to complete several portraits of Dean that I'm satisfied with, his is still the one that I approach like I'm defusing a bomb!
