A dapplegrey art weekend

So finally, after a hiaitus of a couple of years, dapplegrey art got back on the road this weekend.

I set the stall up at Chale Show, Isle of Wight, a stalwart of my dapplegrey journey.  It was my fourteenth year at the show and it felt so damn good to be back!

Because of Covid and then my eye misadventures last year, I've only done Chale Show once in the last four years, and last year I was seriously considering about putting the dapplegrey stall on indefinite hiaitus. The main reason for this was my Dad's health.

Ever since I first set up dapplegrey art back in 2006, my Dad has been my greatest support.  He used to come with me to every Isle of Wight show to help me set up and pack the stall away, and with his extensive art knowledge, I knew that I was leaving the stall in safe hands when I popped off for a break.

Dapplegrey art stalls were always a great dad/daughter bonding time and I know my dad used to love being involved with them.  Unforunately now his health is such that he can no longer work the stall wth me.  This weekend was bittersweet as I worked the stall solo. I was well looked after by the lovely traders I know there who were only too willing to step up and man the stall when I needed to go to the ladies or grab a drink, but not having Dad there felt like a part of me was missing.

Last year was a washout art wise with my eye situation, and I was seriously considering gving it up, not just for that reason but because of Dad's new normal which was a huge adjustment for us all.  I wasn't sure I could carry on without him.  However, over the past year I've realised I just missed doing it.  I missed the lovely people I connected with at the events, and Mr D made me realise that although going without Dad would be painful for him, it would probably be more painful for him to know that I gave up because of him.

So, the stall went ahead this weekend and it was an all round great weekend.  I sold an original, which is always a huge boost.  This was the original I sold, and I'm so delighted that it's gone to a lovely new home:

I didn't get a lot of time to get out and explore, but I did get a few minutes early Sunday morning, and I managed to bump into this cheerful fellow:

So, that was a dapplegrey weekend.  There's another one coming up at the end of August, then that's it for the year. Over the winter I'm going to do some thinking about next year as I'd like to do a few more shows.

It appears that I'm back!
