I've never managed to catch a Perseid shower - one day I'll be in the right place at the right time!

The thing is because it generally comes over during the Summer, you've got to be around really late to see it and then you've got to hope for clear skies. Like the northern lights, it's a bit of a lottery!

Wow! You've seen so many awesome cosmic events. The best I've ever managed was a lunar eclipse. I just missed the Penzance solar eclipse: we were in Cornwall just the next month - our only visit back to the UK since we emigrated in '95.

I'm just interested in stuff like this, and tend to seek it out. I'd known about the total eclipse since I was a kid, old enough to know what a total eclipse was, but still very young. I learned about it via Blue Peter and I swore then that barring disasters I would see that total eclipse, whatever it took. About 20 years on, I fulfulled that promise to myself!
