Just because I am engaged, does not mean that my fiance and I are the same person. I go out a few times per week with friends, without him coming. We have separate interests. He still has his friends from before we started dating, and I have my old friends, too. Heck, we still have friends we met before we even knew each other. We aren't attached at the hip.
And finally, the lowest of the low: not inviting someone to your party because you don't like who they're dating. Or even worse, inviting one half of a couple and specifically telling him, "You can come, but leave your annoying girlfriend at home." The first happened to me, the second happened to another close friend of mine. Um, no wonder he didn't come to your party.
