Welcome Back, Me!

Hello LJ friends,
After a long hiatus, I will be attempting to update this more often. As those of you who are friends with me in real-life know, I got engaged to
odietrying (who hasn't updated in years either) at the end of March. :-) Some have suggested blogging about the wedding plans. So I will be doing that. If you are bored by wedding stuff, I will try to include other updates. Feel free to skip past the wedding entries if you wish, I promise I won't be offended.

And now the story of how we got engaged:
We were at Niagara Falls with band and orchestra.  It was the first day of a weekend trip, and we were stopping off at the NY state park side of the falls before crossing the border to Canada for the weekend.  It was maybe 3:30pm?  We went through the visitor center, and walked down to the edge of the falls.  I was a little annoyed with Jason because he had been having a spat with Adam that day and it was getting on my nerves.  So I was trying to avoid him and hang out with some other friends for awhile.  I was also recovering from a pretty nasty sinus infection, so I felt like crap.

He came up to me and wanted to go up in the observatory.  I had seen in the visitor center that the observatory was closed for the season, so I told him so and started to walk away towards my other friends.  He whined something along the lines of "Please, can we just double-check?"  I did a really exaggerated annoyed sigh, and turned around to go with him.  We got about halfway there, and saw that it was definitely closed.  All of a sudden, I KNEW he was going to propose.  I went all cold and hot at the same time.   I said "I told you it was closed" and turned to leave.  He said wait.  I looked at him, and I got the crazy idea that maybe he wasn't proposing, maybe he just wanted to make out in a secluded spot.  Not like him, but hey, that's what went through my mind.

But then, in one fluid motion, he dropped to one knee and got a simple red ring box from his coat pocket.  I started shaking my head and saying "No you're joking, you're not serious, you're kidding me", etc.  He kept on saying "yes, I'm serious."  And then he said "Will you marry me?"  And in the meantime I was still blubbering about how it had to be a joke.  Then he said "Well I'm waiting for your answer!"  So I said "yes", he got up and hugged and kissed me, and gave me the ring.  I didn't cry at all, but  was really surprised and shaky, so I had to go sit down.
