i'm in one of those moods. the kind that i get in, and feel so damn philosophically poetic, but can't find myself to write. but i try. and use music as an inspiration. thats what makes the world bareable. it's gratifying to know that when your feeling outrageous, you can go find some simple little pop song that feels the same way you do. thats what i love about music. its the only form of art that you can share feelings with. you can cry with each swell, smile with each perfectly placed word, hum with each air, and dance to each beat. to quote nietzsche, "without music life would be a mistake". and he's right. like he usually is. there's another thing, philosophy. it ties right into music. both are trying to find meaning of feelings with words, but they go about differently. recently i have been reading about schopenhauer and john stuart mill. and i agree with both to some extent. schopenhauer believes that satisfactions are relatively few, in reality, most people experience either frustration or, in the event of occasional success, boredom. now, i agree that life is filled many more pessimistic points than joyous ones, and this arises from desire. like schopenhauer says, when we have a wish fufilled, there are 10 other unsatisfied ones. john stuart mill, on the other hand, thinks differently. while schopenhauer is a pessimist, mill is a utilitarian. while schopenhauer's summum bonum was to annihilate all desire, mill's was to pursue pleasure. schopenhauer believed life was a mistake and said "it is a sin to be born" but mill believed life was all about finding pleasure. both are differing philosophies, but share the desire to express meaning. and some how, i agree with both, because both are not correct, but if you put most every philosophy together, you have the closest thing you'll get to a complete definition. the same goes for music, no one song is correct nor is no one note.
