Things of which I am not ashamed

That I upped my Netflix subscription to two movies at a time. To see twice the films.

That I just got a heavily discounted Blackberry. Yes. That's right. Because after comparing all the different types of PDAs, it had the most features for the lowest price. And I hate the little writing stylus thingy.

That I plan on spending much of my weekend listening to meditation cds I also bought.

I am typing this partly to assuage my ridiculously inherent sense of buyer's guilt (not remorse, it's guilt). Like I'm half my dad and sit and get slightly pissed about spending even a buck, and half my mom and get a cheap (and lasting) thrill out of getting new shoes. And I have decided the two halves need to meet, because I get something and I feel like I have to HIDE getting it from myself. Furreal. Like part of me is going to come after the other part and scold me, like a child. Which I guess is something my parents never did too much out loud, but I could sense it in the air, through looks. AND SO, me, I say to me: HEY, you have a full time job, you are practical and thrifty, you never buy anything for anywhere close to full price, and you deserve getting things that fit some of the requirements of your job. And to watch movies. Because for now, you don't have many friends at home besides your folks and your tv (and your bird), so it's okay to be friends with all the movies and books you've missed for the past decade. SHARUMPH!*

*a triumphant harumph.
