Cordoba

I just got back from Cordoba. We went for 2 days and just had the best time. This weekend is the Festival de los Patios. They decorate all these interior patios with tons and tons of red, pink, and purple flowers and then open them up to the public. It's a competition too, and people just go all out. Flowers were just spilling everywhere and it was absolutely beautiful. Last night everyone was out visiting the patios, just hanging out in the street and dancing sevillanas. It was so fun. During the day on Friday, we went to the Alcazar (castle/fortress) which was really cool and to the Mezquita which is also the catedral. The Mezquita was just incredible. The Christians didn't tear this one all the way down because it was so elaborate and historic- they just took out the middle section and stuck a cathedral. It has all these different sections built by different Arabe rulers. The architecture was just fascinating and I learned a lot.

We spent Saturday just walking around looking at patios, saw some modern sculpture, and then Amalia and Teresa suprised us with Mexican food for lunch which was really fun. Anyway, the city was just gorgeous and I loooooved it. I think I like Cordoba better than Sevilla. I wish I'd had more time to just poke through the shops. There was so much pottery, lots of ceramics, and silver jewelry (Cordoba is famous for its delicate silver jewelry). If/when I make it back to Spain, I would love to spend a few days in Cordoba. The weather was just fabulous too.
