noorie What are you reading right now?
Rebel Fay (The Noble Dead) by Barb & J.C Hendee. It's the most recent book in the "Noble Dead" series. I believe there's still one more book to come out. Has vampires and elves and magical beasties. ^_^
Oh technically I'm still in the middle of "The Magician's Guild" but as I don't have the rest of this trilogy(?) and it's not really moving in plot so much, I'll wait to get the other books to finish it.
Do you have any idea what you'll read when you're done with that?
The Swordsman's Oath: The Second Tale of Einarinn is what I have in mind as I already re-read the first tale and would like to finish this series while i still remember the first (though I bought it last year) as this series is damn plotty and wordy. I do like it though.
However, I'm also contemplating reading Stardust or trying Twilight as everyone seems to be raving about it. I'm also thinking of rereading
His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass) since The Golden Compass will be coming out in December. =3
What magazines do you have in your bathroom right now?
Current and back issues of Entertainment Weekly. I go through them so quickly, need to find something more substantial for the bathroom reads.
What's the worst thing you were ever forced to read?
Catcher in the Rye bored me to tears as did the Old Man & the Sea. I could have sworn there was one book that i hated that I threw away after reading but I mustve blocked it from my memory.
What's the one book you always recommend to just about everyone?
Usually it's the "His Dark Material" trilogy by Phillp Pullman or "
The Dragon Quartet by Marjorie B. Kellog. Both authors are fabulous but as they took so freaking long to get each book out (Marjorie beats JK any day) that I've promised myself to not start a series that isn't complete (in books, manga, a different story.) Normally I fail at that as I will pick up something that seems like a one novel (like
Moon Called ) only to find out later that it's going to be a series.. XD
But it really depends on what people like or what they're looking for.
Admit it, the librarians at your library know you on a first name basis, don't they?
In High School, the librarian and his assistant knew me rather well. That was fun.
Is there a book you absolutely love, but for some reason, people never think it sounds interesting, or maybe they read it and don't like it at all?
Not exactly. Though I did try to recc a few of my friends to read this one chick lit book called "Help Wanted, Desperately" (since they made me read shopaholic) and they couldn't get past the first few pages about checking if your breasts are aligned... XD
Do you read books while you eat? While you bathe? While you watch movies or TV? While you listen to music? While you’re on the computer? While you’re having sex? While you’re driving?
Yes to pretty much everything save for the last two... Though I only take showers now so I don't read as I bathe anymore. XD
When you were little, did other children tease you about your reading habits?
Not that I can remember... They usually had other fodder to tease me about. Though I do remember in kindergarten a classmate was surprised I was reading the books in our book corner. They apparently were only for looking at the pictures and not reading the words... XD
What's the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn't put it down?
I wouldn't say it was cause it was so good but the last one was Deathly Hallows. Well, it was a page turner.
Before that? I tend to do it with most books and even some really good fanfics (usually snupin or sailor moon).
So as the meme asks, the current book I'm reading is Rebel Fay, which is part of a ongoing series. Last year I actually did a mini review on the first of the series. XD After doing that marathon reading with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it was refreshing to read for the sake of reading and not for fandom.
Before I got into fandom, I read Harry Potter like any other book. I would take my time and in the interesting parts, speed read. When HBP came out, I got half way, put it down and didn't finish it till 3 weeks later. Why? *shrugs* I just stopped, and even though it was really good, I wasn't compelled to pick it up again the next day. But with DH I felt like if I didn't finish asap, I'd fall behind fandom or get spoiled or just feel incomplete. lol. I would still probably have read it quicker as it was the final book but still... It was almost like a job.
This book is only half or a third the page size of DH and I'm only just over 3/4ths done. It's riveting and there's a lot going on, but I'm glad I'm able to break from it and do other things. At the same time I break only cause if I start up, I'll have to read and finish it... XD
Before DH though, I had only read one book physically in almost a year (not counting textbooks). Most of my reading have been fanfiction or a few etexts. It was so nice to actually break from the computer and delve into an entirely different world. Even when reading manga, it's refreshing as compared to HP fanfics, they'll be a lighter and yet more complicated fare than what's out on the web.
And.. I think I'm beginning to ramble, I don't remember what my original point was, lol. But yesh, books are what keep me sane, so thank goodness for that. =3
