So, my computer was disconnected from the world^W internet again last night. Unlike Wednesday's downtime, today's downtime was not resolved with a restart of the computer in the morning. When this failed to fix it, the mother's boyfriend and I have attempted to trouble shoot. This gets problematic as he gets into the "that doesn't make sense!" hang up, and gets fussy over my various attempts to trouble shoot things like "are we still getting signal down here" and "well, what if that silly little node you took down in the garage was acting as a signal repeater for my part of the network?" Unfortunately, we still have not been able to figure out what the gorram issue is. I even attempted to reconfigure my node downstairs, on the off chance it got stupid and forgot what it was supposed to be doing so it could get online, but now that airport just doesn't want to even talk to a computer via ethernet. Ug.
I have to work today, so there's really not time for me to attempt to further trouble shoot. The mother's boyfriend plans to try more trouble shooting once I'm headed off to work, and I wanted to clear out some email backlog before it becomes a disaster for me to handle when I do finally get online normally again.
While I was down last night, I ended up chatting with a guy I met via OK Cupid (*waves hello to him as he's probably reading this*) and ended up using a third of my text messages for the month just IMing back and forth via msn on my happy little nokia phone. I can't really afford to do that again, after my overages last month I don't want to be paying more stuff past my expected phone bill. But if I'm still down, I'll probably hang out upstairs on the iLamp or evil XP laptop, borrowing them from the mother's boyfriend.
I think if I'm still down tonight, I should probably actually get around to catching up on my backlog of laundry. I've got a bunch of stuff I've been too lazy to fold, and then there's more stuff I really should get washed. Pants and under garments to wear to work are helpful things.
Depending on how attempts to fix this mess go, I may be on limited connection to the internets for a while. I'm hoping we'll get this all back up and running soonish, but given that its like pulling alligator teeth to get support out of Apple that isn't in their store or online, when you're out of the product's warranty period, getting this all fixed might take a while. Ug.
Update: Then to add insult to injury? The laptop now does not see internet via the network either, even though it sees the network and shows full signal strength. All I did was install the stupid Apple Airport admin utility on the laptop, then change the settings on my aiport node. Shiny, ain't it?
