So, when I got my oil changed about a month ago, I took it into my dad's work. He got me his employee discount, got my little car happily changed in the oil and told me she needed some stuff done. First, he just told me about the radiator, that had a slow leak which was okay until it started getting warmer again, and it was recommended I get that taken care of within the next couple months. Expensive, but okay. After I'd left the place, my dad called me up and said he was also told I needed new rear brakes, not as expensive, but apparently a little more important, recommended time frame of 1 month to take care of them.
Valentine's day came, and I was surprised with the parts needed for both repairs from the parent units. I believe I mentioned this in an entry at the time. I negotiated with my mom's boyfriend for the labor, and he started looking at the radiator first. At the time that was no big, it seemed like he'd have the time to do both things, but he ended up with a bunch of other projects coming up with shorter due dates on them. Earlier this week, I mentioned that I was told the breaks were important and the recommended deadline was coming up, but the radiator could wait.
So, this morning, he makes a little time to get on the break project for me, since it looked like it would be a quick and easy, then he could get back to his other project. After I woke up, I decided to go see how the break project was coming, and when I walked out there, Gene explains to me the breaks didn't need to be replaced. I feel really shitty because I'd requested a rush on the project, because while I couldn't have known that the person had lied to my dad, I still feel ultimately responsible for the time wasting that resulted. I do know that it isn't my fault, but I'm still very annoyed.
Right now, I have the urge to find some brass knuckles, pull on my shit kickers, and have a little chat with the asshole who sold us breaks we didn't need, he was probably hoping to get the labor too. Anyhow, I know that likely all that will happen is my mom's boyfriend will have a chat with my dad, and then whatever official recourse that can be had will be had. There might not be any, as the whole goal in a place like that is to sell parts, and well, you know, it's better to replace the breaks too early than to have them fail. Meh. People suck.
