~ Monday ~
What a start to a day! My god, I swear, I would have been better off staying in bed! At least my body knew that this morning… I had a harder time than usual getting my lazy butt out of bed. Where I usually am able to drag myself reluctantly out and wake up after standing under the running water for a short bit, I couldn't even pull myself out from under the covers this morning! And it's not like I stayed out any later than usual for a Sunday night. However, the fact that I brought a boy home with me… and he was still there in the morning probably didn't help me get up any. If I hadn't needed to report in for work shortly, I would have woken him up with a morning romp… as it was, I had to leave him a note, and tell him I'd be back after work.
Anyhow, once I managed to get out the door fully clothed I hit the stairs on my skateboard narrowly missing one of my tenants. The old bat threw a string of curses at me, and a hollow threat (more hollow than she knows) that she'd get me kicked out for that stunt. If only she knew I owned the place, and wasn't going anywhere any time soon. I got a good chuckle out of that as I popped out the front door and dove into the masses of the city. The skate to work was pretty uneventful, just the typical curses and threats as I zoomed past people. I don't know what everyone's problem is! I'm still yet to hit anyone in the stupid city, and I've been skating through it my whole life!
Despite my late start, I managed to roll into the courier depot about five minutes before I was officially scheduled to be there. A couple people had already flopped into our "waiting room", and they were quick to toss off greetings to me as I clocked in and hopped off my board. Clarisse was playing Rez* on the PS2, and the music was fed into the cheap Radio Scrap surround sound we had hooked to the forty-two inch in our cocoon of orange and green couches and bean bags. I jumped over the back of the green couch and dropped my board at my feet as I ended up between Scotty and Trish. Trish was totally engrossed in the game, but Scotty was still free enough from it to give me a hug and kiss on the cheek in hello.
Shauna shot me a look from the far corner of the orange couch that I met with a "what the fuck's wrong with you" look. She rolled her eyes and turned away from me as she crossed her arms and legs. By the time a job came in I was the only one not zoned in the game... It's amazing how much of my attention wasn't held by it when I didn't have the vibrating accessory sitting in my lap.
Jumping over the back of the couch again, I hit the floor on my board, zipped past Molly's office window and rolled out into the flow of people with the address for pick up. I made a quick glance at the address before I went too far. "Oh shit, this is up by the 'rents' place..." I muttered to myself as I ducked up a side street.
I managed to make it past the Lynn estate without being spotted and was off to the water front for delivery. My lazy mood tackled me before far so I whipped out my 'poon and caught a tow from a hot shot in a red bmw. The most fun part about 'poonin' these assfucks in the expensive cars is that they tend to have the biggest egos and take offence to my doing this. This gave me a chance to check in on sleeping beauty, since he was just earning the right to stay in my place without me there… I just had to watch for the car pulling stupid stunts trying to ditch me. The conversation went something like this:
"Hello?" Seth mumbled as he picked up his cell phone and immediately treated me to a yawn. I stifled a giggle.
"Well hello there, I didn't wake you, did I?" I asked, knowing full well I did. There was a pause before he answered.
"Oh, hey Alara… yeah, but it's no problem. You have a nice bed here; I slept better last night than I have in a while now."
"Considering your bed is a lumpy thing that needs to be drug outside and shot as a mercy killing that does not surprise me one b-" At that point the jerk I was 'pooned to decided to pull a sudden and sharp turn. "Shit, hold on, 'kay?" I said as I pulled in a lot of slack and readjusted my center of gravity to work better with the seeming obstacle course this guy was headed for.
"What are you doing?" I heard him ask.
"Trying to keep my ass from getting splattered on the Streets of San Fran…" I answered him as I had my 'poon let go and I ducked down a side street on my left over momentum.
"Oh yeah, you're a skateboard courier, aren't you?" I sighed and let myself roll to a stop to deal with my 'poon.
"Yeah… thus my reason for not being there with you right now, I gotta work." There was silence on the other end of the line as I reeled in my poon and put it back on my belt, and then started towards the waterfront again. "So, are you going to be there when I get off work? Or will I have to wait 'til next weekend to be able to fuck your brains out again?"
"When do you get off?"
"Five, give or take," I turned down the street I was headed for, and hopped off my board at the front door of my destination, some internet company that somehow made it though the big dot-com bust a decade back. "I gotta walk in and deliver something… I'd like an answer before I have to hang up the phone. Are you gonna be there when I get off work?"
"I could be-"
"Great, I'll see you then. And would you be an angel, and make something for dinner? You're welcome to use anything in the kitchen. See you tonight." I hit the end button on my phone and entered the building I was standing in front of. As I switched the phone over to pleasure mode so the imminent return call wouldn't disrupt the delivery, I strolled up to the front desk. I flashed my courier ID, and leaned across the counter towards the bored looking man as I asked where to find a Ms. Stark. His eyes lifted from my chest and he blushed noticeably, I met this with a smile as I waited for his answer to my question.
My phone vibrated silently in my pocket when the guy at the desk finally directed me to the correct office. I pulled the phone out of my pocket as I walked down the hall and glanced at the caller ID. Seth Jacobs was flashing on my phone's display with his cell phone number under it. I shook my head, slid my phone back into my pocket and politely tapped on the door labeled Ms. Beth Stark. I didn't have to wait a moment before I was told to enter, and I was glad when she was a quick and easy drop off… heck, she was even nice enough to tip me.
After a quick bit of oral from the boy at the front desk, I was out and on my way back to the courier depot to see about my next job. As I caught a ride 'pooned to a sweet little old lady in a deep plum viper, I slipped my phone out of my pocket and jumped onto the wireless web for a quick update on the news headlines. Oakland A's botched the playoffs again, what else is new? At least they're still doing better than those stupid Giants. The mall on T.I. is getting close to opening again, it'll be nice to be able to duck in and get food in the middle of a long day of skating and socializing, I'll have to see about getting out there again. Political bull shit, yet another scandal in the White House, and the fucking republicans trying to save us from it. Dad's company donating more money somewhere, not that it matters, it's chump change for him and the company. Besides he only does it to make the company look better, if he actually cared about the children or the women he has a wife, and had a daughter, at home who both could have used some of his attention.
When I made it back to the depot, I saw that all my coworkers were out on jobs and there were three jobs waiting for people to return. The morning rush was starting, since it was getting closer to ten am, when a lot of the businesses started to really open up and need their information over somewhere else before they even remember to call us.
I randomly grabbeb a job, and left the stub for the job with Molly as she was on the phone filling out another job slip. She waved to have me wait, so I kicked my board into my arm and put my free elbow on her ledge so I could rest my chin on my hand.
"I had someone ask for you by name for a job just after you left earlier. They insisted I hold it for you 'till you came back..." she held out a slip she'd kept behind her window, and took back the one I'd previously grabbed.
"Oakland? I thought we didn't officially cover Oakland?"
"We don't but they offered tripple our normal fees, there isn't a time deadline, and you're the only one we have who I'd trust to do a job that far."
"Did you think to ask me before agreeing?" I questioned as my eyes scanned the stub.
"I was going to tell you to take the rest of the day off, and I'll pay you for it."
"Okay, then I'll see you tomorrow,"
