What does Shia Leboeuf transform into? I hope it's a better actor.

I disagree.

It looks like they took all the pieces of the classic Transformers, put them in a blender, and stuck them together with shit-smelling goo that must drip off Michael Bay's talent-less ass.

Two words: Pearl Harbor.

points for it: Its based on Gen1 transformers, they have peter cullen reprising the voice of optimus, and megaton is a gun again.

points against it: Michael Bay, robot mode looks too robotish and not human enough, and Michael Bay.

In all seriousness, I probably would have enjoyed it despite it being a Bay film if I hadn't seen bits of the leaked script. Basically the Transformer characters are getting sidelined for a story about Spike & Cos struggle to survive in the Autobot/Decepticon war. I think that does a disservice to the original cartoon, where the Transformers were the main characters and the humans were sidelined.

We shouldn't need the human element to give us insight and perspective into these alien robots. The original transformers were VERY human and could be easily identified with. Just look at how they were drawn: very human faces with cheeks and noses etc (occasionally covered with a faceplate) and Robotmode bodies that looked like humans in boxy body armor.

it all looks pretty darn good, and that's coming from someone who planned to completely ignore it.
