A member of a craft group I'm in recently posed the following question:
Hi,
Years ago my daughter used to make these neat little gifts for her friends / family.
She would like to have the pattern for it.
Our dilemma is that we can not remember the name of it and we looked all over the Internet to no avail.
What she did was used embroidery floss and wrapped the strands around writing pens and somehow with an alternating color strand, she embedded there names in it.
In other words the pen ended up saying their name on it that was made of embroidery floss.
We thought they were like those friendship bracelets ...along the same lines as that is when this craft came out...about the same year and made of embroidery floss.
Anyone know what I am talking about and the name and/or pattern for it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
So I thought about it and wrote back:
It sounds to me like this could be done by hot glueing strands of floss down the length of the pen, completely covering it.
Then take another very long strand of a contrasting floss, hot glue it to the top as a starting point, and then start wrapping it around the whole thing, strands and all.
Every time you come to a place where a part of a letter should be, weave one of the shorter strands over the long one, then continue to wrap the long strand over everything.
Continue that process and it should create the effect you're looking for.
You could also hot glue a shorter length of the letter color of floss aroung the top of the pen a few times for a finished look.
Hope that helps.
Sincerely,
Winnie
So I was wondering if anyone else here had done something similar and if so could you give me any pointers? I'd really like to try making these. (And of course I'll take lots of pictures, and if they turn out right I'll make them into a tutorial.)

Thanks everyone. :)
ETA: I'm thinking maybe like this, where the circled areas are where the red is weaved over the purple to form the pattern.
