So I finally figured out how to post to this community. I just recently made myself a slew of pads out of t-shirts and I have to say, I am sold. I hate the sweaty clingyness of disposables it's so gross.
I guess other people's attitudes towards cloth pads shouldn't surprise me, but it does considering that most of the people who think they're gross have never tried them. My sister thinks they're gross, my ma says it's like going back to the stone age, even my grandma doesn't like them. Grandma was old school and had to pin rags to her underwear. I have to say that with the modern design of cloth pads, there is no reason not to try them.
After making a bunch of my own, I now want to sell them, but I have questions. I tried posting a question in yahoo answers, and was appalled by some of the idiotic, answers I got. One ignorant person suggested I use sand paper or sheet metal. Another said they were unsanitary. I was asking about fabric, not sanitary issues.
Anyways, after some research, I decided to try manufacturing them with flannel, polar fleece and quilters cotton.
Here's how it would work:
- Top Layer: one layer of quilter's cotton for style, underneath that a layer of flannel for absorbency and durability.
- Bottom Layer: either flannel or polar fleece, most likely flannel.
- Core: seven layers of flannel and one layer of polar fleece for wetness protection.
- Closure: Wings, most of my pads would be winged with a rust-proof snap closure.
I just want to run this by some intelligent people to get some constructive criticism without ignorance.
