Fabric help please -

I bought some cotton fleece, cotton french terry, cotton sherpa and hemp fleece - I washed/dried it 3-4 times on hot.

I also got some cotton velour on sale at Hancocks to use as toppers to the mamacloth.  I had been told it would absorb but the water seems to sit on top of it for a bit before absorbing.

Even after washing all of these various fabrics 3-4x's the water still wanted to sit on top of the fabric. I had cut 4 layers and sewn them into the contour insert shape for mamacloth. I put the textured side in rather than out when I serged them but that shouldn't make a difference I wouldn't think or does it?

do I need to wash/dry these some more to "prep" them or ????? do I need to wash/dry the cotton velour more to "prep" it?

I know these are good quality fabs as they came from coops - so why is the cotton fleece, cotton french terry, cotton sherpa, hemp fleece, bamboo knit and cotton velour not absorbing?

the flannel and terry towling and prefold diaper fabric all absorb immediately!

any thoughts?

fabric choices - sherpa, fabric choices - cotton terry, fabric choices, fabric choices - hemp, fabric choices - cotton fleece, prewashing materials
