DC Universe Online - First Impressions
Remember when I was working 60+ hours a week during December? Apparently it caused my brain to collapse. I'm behind in everything, so some of you are going to get Valentine's Cards instead of Winter Holiday cards.
My husband's computer got fried again, so I'm playing DCU Online by myself til the repair shop fixes his PC. So far I'm liking it, but it's taking me forever to get the hang of the keyboard controls. Its been a long time since I gamed on the PC, probably since Diablo II. I'm sure I'll get it eventually, but in the meantime I'm just exploring while I wait for my husband to join me.
Some of the things I've noticed so far:
The characters seem well rendered for the most part. I have an issue with the width of Nightwing's jawline, but for the most part the recognizable characters are dead on. Donna Troy seems a bit "beefy", but it doesn't bother me as much and the jawline on Dick. Also, the first character I ran into was Robin. (yes, I squeed outloud...repeatedly.) They used Timmy Robin. I'm a litttle disappointed, I was looking forward to a verbal spar with the demonspawn. However, since they're using an older timeline I hope it means that Roy is fully intact and unmaimed. But the website refers to him as "Arsenal". He didn't start using that name again until after CFJ. So how can Tim be Robin and Roy be Arsenal? Okay, it could be the old version of Arsenal, but Tim was wearing the last version of his Robin costume. Unfortunately I couldn't track down any members of the Arrow clan last night.
My biggest pet peeve so far is the other players. Particularly the "fanboys". There was a question out last night about how you got into the DCU fandom. One know-it-all answered that he was into DCU because of Spiderman. Really? Did he string you up with webbing and read you a DC comic? Cause that's the only way I can envision that working.
My favorite moment so far: I was checking my game e-mail while my husband was standing behind me. I had an e-mail from Robin, and I was squeeing over getting mail. As I clicked on the e-mail my husband started singing "Secret Lovers" and dancing around the room. Apparently he thinks I'm having an affair with Tim. LOL
