Con Recs?

Hubby needs to turn in his vacation requests for next year by Monday (ridiculous, right?)   As we were discussing the possibilities last night we decided to try to get to Dragon*Con next year.   Anyone have any other con recs for newbies?

Also, anyone know of a ghost hunting type convention?  I'm thinking of trying to talk my mom and cousins into one since that's what they're out doing this weekend.
