Wow, where to start? I think we'll go with the highlights in chronological order.
This past Monday, Chris told me that he was very likely going to be going to the Czech Republic this summer as an alumnus of the Ann Arbor Boy Choir. And that he had gotten me invited along. This was thrilling of course, but I still wasn't sure what I was doing this summer, and the trip was going to be expensive. I figured that if I got the job I was hoping for - working for Prof. Gus Evrard at the University of Michigan REU program (kinda like FURSCA for those of you who go to Albion, but I get to stay in Ann Arbor this summer), I would have enough money and flexibility of schedule to go on the trip.
The problem is, I hadn't heard if I got the job yet and so wasn't sure I would, and Chris had to tell the director of the choir whether I was going or not by Thursday. So Wednesday I regretfully told him I couldn't go.
Wednesday night, I got an e-mail saying I was accepted to the REU program for the summer.
So after a flurry of e-mails to Prof. Gus to see if I really could take a week off in July and to Chris to say "hold on a minute" and to my parents to see what they thought of this whole thing, I eventually told Chris (apparently just in time) that I was in. So, while it's not certain that I'll be doing it (do to some issues on Chris's end, and if he's not going I'm not), it looks like I'll spend 9 days singing in the Czech Rep. this summer!
The rest of the week, per se, doesn't really bear mentioning because school was rather normal. There were definitely good parts with people, and the only bad thing I can think of is that Dan and I got back into playing chess against each other, and he suddenly started playing more aggressively and worked up a 5-game winning streak.
This weekend was a lot of fun. It was little sibs weekend so there were a bunch of munchkins running around, which was cute. I spent Friday night with Lindsay and her roommate's little brother and a friend of hers and her little brother. I got trampled at that memory game where you lay out all the cards face down and try to find the matching pairs, but I owned at chutes and ladders.
Saturday was the annual Phi Mu Alpha/Sigma Alpha Iota Formal. So we all went up to Frankenmuth and had this absolutely wonderful dinner served to us, and had lots of fun dancing and attempting to DJ our own dance. I of course dance like a white boy (badly), but that's kinda to be expected. Dancing memories include headbanging with 4 other long-haired guys (can anyone remember who all of them were?), getting thrown onto the dancefloor to participate in a whole bunch of guys dancing alone and singing along to "It's Raining Men", and of course slow and fast dancing (generally making a fool out of myself during the latter) with Lindsay, who was my date. Which was the best of all.
So we spent the night at a hotel (which bore the same name as the restaurant but was on the other side of town, thus confusing us), and Lindsay and I shared a room with Kyle, Amy, and Kris. I feel kinda sorry for Kris cause he didn't have any blankets and ended up on the floor pulling some of the covers from Kyle and Amy's bed down over him. And the room temperature varied wildly over the night, which didn't help things. Still though, 'twas fun.
So got back here, did absolutely no homework, went to the choir concert (and got a lot of compliments for my solo), out to dinner with my dad, then to Steve's senior recital, which went well. Eventually I ended up at E-Board (Phi Mu Alpha Executive Board) which I don't hold a seat on at the moment but hope to after elections in just over a week, which was really interesting. It was apparently the most heated meeting they've had all year, but after a long time debating, compromises were reached that everyone could agree to, and with those in place meeting this week (which is going to be really long anyway) should go just that much faster.
By the way, has anyone else noticed a name recurring a whole lot in this little narrative? Lindsay and I had a little talk about the status of our relationship last night and I asked her to be my girlfriend. So for those of you who have been wondering recently, we are now officially going out. That of course led to the title of this post.
Anyway, we celebrated by making a midnight Meijer run so she could buy yarn to make doll hair out of for Cloud 9, which she's propmaster for. Then we headed up to my room "briefly" so I could check my calender for Wednesday (her mom is coming up) and that ended up being not so brief. Despite just sitting around and talking and saying every 15 minutes or so that we should go to bed, didn't manage it until quarter till 4. So this morning was rather interesting, but it was still worth it because unless plans change I don't get to see her today.
So yeah, it was a very good week and weekend and I got no homework done whatsoever and I'm hungry so am going to dinner. Oh, and by the way, I just beat Dan at chess, breaking his streak on our 50th game of the year!
