I spent last Thursday through Monday in New York with the speech team. It was amaaaaazing! Friday was actually the only day we spent in NYC but I loved it. So much fun.
First stop was Ground Zero. This was a church across the street that had been turned into a museum.
Pretty surreal.
Pretty buildings.
I took a lot of these pictures where I ran ahead of everyone and turned around. They're fun. That's Tanya, Laura, Sarah (our coach), Chris, Zeph and Layne.
Why didn't I buy any postcards?! I buy postcards wherever I travel...except this time, apparently.
Layne and Sarah checkin' out some jewelry.
New glazzes.
Tanya bought a picture of Justin Bieber. Not sure why.
Laura kind of got ripped off by this guy. She could have told him she didn't want the frame, though...
I wish our trees turned orange here. :(
This was in Battery Park, by the way.
Watching Laura get her caricature done.
We didn't actually care to spend the time it would take to ride the ferry past Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty, so we just took some pictures from really far away.
Testin'.
Sarah took some group pictures of us. She was taking one with Chris's phone and just had my camera sitting on the bench behind her. I was kind of freaking out. You can't just DO THAT
Zeph took over the camera for awhile. After this we were going into the subway station and you have to swipe your metrocard to go through the turnstile, right? Well this guy's crutch got caught on one of the bars so Chris swiped his card so that he could get unstuck and then he couldn't use his card to go through because it had just been used, so he had to jump it. It was pretty funny.
Chris was pretty excited about kind of being on Wall Street. He's very into business and politics and such
The whole subway experience was pretty fun, and also pretty dirty.
We split into two groups and did some shopping in Chinatown.
This was one of my favorite parts of the day, just exploring the city ~*unsupervised*~
"Seth", haha.
At this point we're in a different part of the city, near 5th Avenue. Sarah went to go stand in the line to buy half-price Broadway tickets and turned us loose again.
F.A.O. Schwarz is this huge toy store. The other girls were pretty excited about it, I wasn't really interested so Zeph and I headed to Central Park and Chris went to go meet one of his dad's business partners? Haha.
I loved Central Park! So pretty. My favorite part of the day next to seeing Mary Poppins on Broadway!
We barely scratched the surface of it though. I wish there had been more time.
Kind of hate the pictures I took though.
We went on an arduous journey to find the Harley Davidson shop (my parents wanted shirts). It was not at all where I thought it was but we eventually found it. Saw this big tree along the way.
Rockefeller Center!
Soooo crowded.
I would have loved to go ice skating! But the line was super long :(
Quite a task trying to find everyone again, partly because Chris said he was "behind the nutcracker." There were 6 of them...and they weren't even nutcrackers. After this we ate at a delicious pizza place. Then Layne, Zeph, Tanya and Laura went off to shop before their show (Phantom of the Opera) and Sarah, Chris and I shopped before ours - Mary Poppins!
Chris really wanted to see La Cage but it was sold out.
Times Square was another one of my favorite parts!
When I was little I pictured Times Square to be much, MUCH smaller. The picture I had in my mind was ridiculously small.
This was the show some of us wanted to see, but also sold out. :(
I'd love to see that one day!
Chris and I went to go warm up in the busiest Starbucks ever. Mmmm, hot chocolate.
Mary Poppins was SO magical and amazing. Check out this video of my favorite number, Step in Time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VNGIQ51aiw Bert tap dances all around the proscenium! It was SOOOO COOOOL DUUUUDE. Ugh. I LOVE THEATRE
The theatre was so beautiful!
Now the chronology starts over since these are the pictures I took with my film camera. Stay with me here! I love these pictures!
This was in the Corpus airport, waiting for Tanya's mom to bring her ID. Who doesn't bring their ID?!?!?!
It's so crazy how short the flight from Corpus to Houston is.
Lunch at the Houston airport.
I love how fashionable we all were in our winterwear.
We had dinner that night in THE cutest little town.
So cozy!
Took this right before heading out to the city. I worked so hard to finish that scarf the night before we left!
1.5 hour train ride on the LIRR into NYC. It was fun.
Tanya made me take this photo off Facebook.
I tried to take this as a Polaroid but my film was long expired. I was so sad at the prospect of not taking any polaroids in NYC. There would have been some great ones. :( Oh, and lol @ Chris's "acting natural" face. I guess that really is him acting natural.
Yeah, that didn't take anywhere near 2 minutes.
I like what the light's doin' on the left side of this photo.
Love this picture
I love how sketchy the subway stations are.
Moar Central Park.
You've seen this before.
First day of the tournament. He actually has a cigarette holder. ~*Classy*~
Nice little walk. I loved the weather.
Strange grass mound.
Need more trees this color in my life.
We're all so enthused.
Pretty campus.
There were some sketchy areas too...
I was really surprised that Chris of all people would wear these Christmas socks to a tournament.
I just wanted to take a picture of the milkshake...then Chris decided to pose for it...then Layne stuck her hands in there. Whateva
Didn't take this one. The end!
