what a day, what a day

got up and ready rather early this morning. gonna be getting into work at a great time, which is on time, which has little relevance in academic research, but it meant i wasnt going to have to stay late to compensate. then the call came from the carpenter that he was available to fix the stairs this morning. in brief, they were pulling away from the wall and he was goingto fix them. so i call in late to work to make this happen. after a frightfull day of weird noises and strange devices made of wood and car jacks, it looked like the stair fix was a go. but no. i was wrong. at the last step, it became apparant that it was in fact, not going to work. not at all. so down came all the contraptions, leaving me with a hole in my bathroom ceiling, a leaky toilet and what appears to be a slightly crooked mirror. dont get me wrongl, the carpenter is great. he tried his damdest to make the thing work. if anyone was going to fix it without having to take the whole staircase apart, it was him. on a good note, he moved a light in the bathroom for me, since the hole was already there, and hung the aforementioned mirror. which while apppearing to be level with a...level....it looks crooked compaired to the chair rail. and the toilet, which was moved to insert a stair fixing contraption, now leaks. though i think i ferreted out the easy to fix cause after the carpenter left. he also tried to fix it. now ive got to make sure its fixed, and i get the fun job of finishing the ceiling repair. he put in the drywall and did the taping and first coat of compound. i need finish the rest and repaint. whew.
on another odd note, last friday i got a crappy bad gum infection around my wisdom tooth and spent most of saturday sleeping off the pain. the rest of the time since then has been spent awake (during normal waking hours, no insomnia), but very grumpy. it is starting to hurt again. maybe i need more pain killer. the antibiotics have indeed cut down on the pain as they work their magic, but the swelling is persistent and should be for the next few days. i know this because it is the third infection in the same spot in 1.5 years. i need to get the teeth out.
and thats my update. yay.
