Travel Journal - Day Two

May 07, 2004 19:12

Friday was pretty much a lax reasting day. Having gotten to sleep past midnight the night before, coupled with the lack of sleep on the plane ride, I was looking forward to a nice late morning. Unfortunately, I seemed to be the only person not affected by jet lag, because everyone else was up and awake and ringing us at 7:30 in the morning. Grr.

Pacific Place, where our hotel was located, is also a large shopping center, movie theater, and connnected to Admiralty MTR station. The MTR is Hong Kong's equivalent of a subway system. In the morning we wandered around the mall for a little while without really seriously shopping. We also tried on the funeral clothing to make sure it fit. Adjustments were made as necessary.

We had lunch at the Metropol Restaurant, dim sum. I didn't write down everything there, but it included shrimp dumplings, steamed spinach rolls, soup noodles, and pork in tofu skin rolls.

After lunch, we went back to the hotel with my mother's cousin to do all the fitting for the dresses. Mine fit fine so I went to help Sam Ee with the folding of the memorial booklets for the funeral. We first took the ubway and went to a printing shop where we picked up the papers, then went to her apartment. My cousin Mira and I folded booklets for a little over an hour, then she took a nap while I checked my email and read parts of 'The Da Vinci Code.' Sam Ee went to pick up Gavin, Mira's brother, from school.

When Sam Ee and Gavin came back, we went to meet the rest of the extended family for dinner at the Nice Fragrance Vegetarian Restaurant. Di Ee Ma arrived sometime that afternoon and she came to dinner as well. We had taro pancakes, fish with mushroom and bamboo, assorted vegetables, and steamed tofu.

That night we shared a room with Paupau.
