'Dite poked her head out of the back room in surprise.

"Max? What are you doing here?"

She came out to meet him, wiping her hand on a towel before tossing it into the air where it disappeared.

"Don't tell me you forgot," Max said, grinning teasingly at the goddess.

"Forgot? Me? No!"

Of course she had.

"Um. What was it I didn't forget?"

She didn't think she'd forgotten that they had a date; those were usually the first thing listed in her little black book.

"Ah, of course you didn't." Max grinned a bit wider. "You ready, then?"

"Ready . . . for whatever it was I didn't forget?" She nodded. "Ah. Um. Right." Then her face lit up. "How should I be dressed for this? Do you want me in leather, or should I be in a dress?"

There; however he answered would give her a clue as to whatever it was she was supposed to be doing with him.

"Probably not a dress," Max snickered. "Or leather, for that matter. Something loose and comfortable..." He lifted an eyebrow. "Do you have, like, work out clothes?"

"Work out clo-- oh, no." She remembered, then.

Max was going to teach her to fight.

"I'm sorry, Max, I did forget." She sat down on her stool with a sigh. "Any chance we could put it off? It's been -- a long day."

Though part of her was wondering if going to the lesson might actually be cathartic.

"Normally I'd say yes, but it's been my experience that it's the long days that are the best for training." That way you knew how to fight when it'd been a long day.

"Does this mean you're not going to let me get out of it tonight?"

It would serve her right, since this was basically her idea.

"Who's idea was this?" Max asked with a chuckle. "I think that means you don't get off the hook."

She sighed, but nodded. "We talked about doing this at the community center. Do you want to go down there tonight, or can I just clear a space here?"

'Dite wasn't sure which would be better, so she'd let him decide. Besides, she'd hidden out enough. The community center might be a good thing for her.

"Unfamiliar space might help," Max suggested. "Keep you on your toes."

"Right. Community center it is." 'Dite switched off a couple of lights, then checked the knob to make sure it would lock behind them. "Any particular clothes you want me in?"

"Like I said, something comfortable and easy to move in. A track suit or sweatpants and a sweatshirt or something."

He turned toward the door. "I'll head on over and you can meet me there?"

"I'll be there shortly." She blew him a kiss as he left, then put her hands on her hips.

"Sweats? You've gotta be kidding me." 'Dite thought for a moment, then grinned and snapped her fingers, zapping herself into just the perfect outfit.

"Oh, yeah. Pink is just my color." With a wink to herself she was out the door.
