I seriously think not. Here're some tidbits I came to realize about Kairi and wouldn't really mind a good debate about it - speficially the point raised in the topic.
Let this be named - The Essay, Appendix A, if only because it deals with Kairi and Namine both and what I believe to be misconceptions about it.
(
Lol rant )
I did too! ...until the "let's take the raft and go, just the two of us!" would-be joke came along.
I'm sorry, that's not something you let a character joke about unless you want to break, 10 minutes into the game, the very concept you're supposed to be struggling to create for her, being a childhood friend for both Sora and Riku. Sigh.
but I am a natural shipper, or a hopeless shipper, probably the later
I can relate =w=;;; even if the characters aren't together or even know each other, I'd probably find myself two characters I like that look like they can get along. It's part of the fun of fandom.
I like Sora better in the first game. Then COM comes out and Naminé was just too wonderful not to like. There was just so much to her.
Sora in KH1 was amazing. And his CoM/Re:CoM incarnations are the best in the series, imo. I'm sorry, he just locked his best friend for life in a realm of Darkness filled with monsters out to eat his Heart, after he just had to fight against and save said friend, after his whole world just about went kapoot.
Him being happy go lucky and singing hakuna matata is, pardon my french, crap :v
I do agree about Namine though. Even when all we got to see was glimpses of her throughout the game, my heart went out to her - only to be completely shattered and broken once we got to the main parts of the game. She's amazing, both plot-relation wise, character development wise, and interaction wise. Guh, I love her. And the fact that everything that went between her and Roxas can be seen in a sort of disgusting light because of her interest in Sora only makes me love and adore her more because it comes to show what a round character she is.
And since then I have been seeing more and more why I didnt like Kairi.
I KNOW! X_X I didn't like Kairi after KH1. She annoyed me all through the game. But it was like, shrugable, in a way, I guess.
But then came CoM and showed us Namine and SoNami and that they could YES write decent female protagonists and romantic relationships, it's just that with Kairi and SoKai - they didn't.
Then my frustration flared, and reached the boiling point in KH2 D: like you saw in the main essay - I barely even talked about her KH2 self in the Kairi part. She's not worth it.
our essays are fabulous. It feels like you stole everything in my brain and translated it into words that can be read by people. I could never explain why Kairi irked me, but here you have laid things out so well and basicially organized my thoughts for me. Your so kind to do the dirty work like that ♥
Why, thank you! ♥ it's good to hear some people still enjoy reading that monstrous beast.
The thing about most Kairi haters is that they're logical - they hate something, they don't bother with it. Hence why a lot of people would just explain their dislike for her with 'she sucks' and be done with it, henceforth giving the haters a bad name.
And people LIKING her because she's so cute and adorable and pewfect is ok because...?
The thing about me is that it's not so much hate as a mixture of that and disappointment. I can do with hating characters. I hate Marluxia, for instance, and for my own reasons, Mickey in KH2. However, I cannot, for the life of me, say they are bad characters, and hence - does not go against them openly.
Kairi has nothing redeeming to her. She fails as a person, yet because she was written badly to the point she breaks her concept, she fails as a character as well.
That's why when most people try to say things like "we don't hate her, we're just disappointed", they're actually talking about two different, unrelated things, imo. Hence why it's important for me to explain myself as much as I can in both aspects - to show my views and side, so as to get people to admit that even Kairi haters have reasons to think what they think, as well as to keep others from having to do so themselves.
I've had my essay linked to on numerous occasions XD not sure whether that's for better or worse though @w@;;;
It's a dirty job~ but somebody's gotta do it~
