I've liked Sailor Moon for years. In fact, close to a decade now, ever since I found it out on this Turkish channel they used to broadcast around here at the time.
Needless to say, I didn't understand squat. But it kept me entertained during my afternoons.
A while later I found it out on a German channel on Saturday mornings. Right after Cutey Honey. And I'd hate myself whenever I'd sleep in.
Needless to say, I didn't understand too much there either (though a bit more than in Turkish XD). I'd make up names for the characters so I could relate to them better and started toying with plot ideas in my mind. Which was fun since I knew nothing about the canon. So yeah.
Then, about two years after the initial discovery, I bought a magazine that had Pikachu on the cover. Ah, my happy Pokemon period.
Inside was an article about Sailor Moon, and I recognized the characters. Given, it was about the horrible dub, but it gave me a clue and a connection, and with internet becoming more and more common in schools and libraries (56kbps modems I used to have a site about it back in the day. It's gone now that Geocities died. Oh well. I've long since outgrew the fanfic I wrote there and it's probably for the best I have no proof of its existence.
This journal means nothing in that aspect. NOTHING.
A good while after, internet finally became something present in my own house, international credit cards and friends abroad became more than a dream, and I finally managed to get my paws on parts of the series.
Watching the first season in full made me happy. I mean it. I was elated. And of course watching it in the proper order in a language I could understand (I ironically understand Japanese better than any of the aforementioned languages, as befitting a Western Otaku. That and it was subbed, duh) made me enjoy it oh so much more, especially the ending of that series.
Then came Romance, Super and SuperS kind of in a row (though SuperS stalled ;; )
And finally, years later, comes the reason for this journal entry.
I finally finished watching Sailor Moon: Sailor Stars.
I hate how much of a repulsive Mary Sue they turned Usagi into at the end. I guess it can't be helped but she was just TOO perfect and angelic and omfg everyone belives in her despite knowing that throwing all the burden at her is unfair.
Right.
Usagi/Seiya >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Usagi/Mamoru. If only because, ya know, them actually bothering with developing the relationship and not going "they're lovers because they were so in their past lives". And then we don't even know why they were so in their past lives. Ugh.
But yeah. If ever I was a happy Rei/Usagi fan it was in this season. Seriously. If there's one change I'm eternally grateful they made between the manga (which I kind of dislike, actually) and the anime is that instead of having Usagi as the untouchable, holy Princess, they made her far more humane and established her more personal relationships with her Senshi, mostly with Rei.
Who is my most favorite Senshi there <3
So yeah. I cried me a river or two at the end before Usagi kind of ruined the moment by being holier than -insert holy person of your religion here-
Buddha. Let's settle for Buddha? Ok.
It's kind of bitter sweet right now. Since after all those years I'm... done.
Well not really I still need to watch a couple of specials and the SuperS movie.
But I'm done.
That's it.
As far as the series is concerned...
I watched Sailor Moon in whole.
I think I'll cry in bitter-sweet happiness now over the end of a period that lasted a decade.
Omfg.
Yours,
Duckey,
Finally a true Sailor Moon fan.
