Well. not too much is new, but thought I would give a brief update. That portioning shift at work was awesome -- I learnt a bunch, did tons extra, and still almost finished on time. I found out that the guy doing it now is leaving, but in July. Like, while I'm gone. And whoever they get to take over will have to work then, and continue through July. ("Fuck!"). Alas, it does not look like it will be working out, despite my hopes. It's alright, I think my time in Australia will make up for it. I still have my hopes set on working grill, but not closing -- getting home is harder as the bus now runs further away, and the restaurant is open later than when I closed last summer.
Today was characterized by the regional managers being in to give us a store review, and they focused, somewhat expectedly, on my station. They had me make one of everything, then critiqued the dishes. It went much better than I expected and after it all I (a) still have a job, (b) am assured I won't be going through that anytime soon. The whole thing, though, was just nerveracking and painstakingly dumb. I did enjoy my break though. Lately I've been bringing lunch from home and making it at work (you have more than a microwave and can actually do that) so today I made oven-roasted tuna melts and cut pears for dessert. That was good.
I almost went to The Shore tonight after work, and phoned the guys (read: castor, sir_devo, et al.), but the people at work weren't sure whether they were going and I wasn't waiting around, despite the promise of it being incredibly enjoyable and reasonably cheap. So, it'll have to be another week.
In any case, the week is going and the weekend shall come soon enough.
