“What are you doing?”
“Nothing.”
“What do you mean nothing?” Chloe detects a certain note of panic in Brody's voice. She can only imagine what sight they must present. The three of them sitting on one of the large couches on the Observation deck, completely relaxed and looking actually happy. In Eli's and her case it's no surprise but when it comes to Rush... Poor Brody.
“We are doing-”
“-nothing.” Eli rubs his side where Chloe's elbow made contact, trying and failing to look innocent. “Ouch. What?”
“Very helpful, Eli,” Rush mutters, his eyes closed, head leaned back against the soft leather, his hair intertwined with Chloe's, who's sitting in the middle, between her two companions.
“But-, what-, are too-, not-”
“Mr. Brody, until you find your communications skills again, please step aside. You are blocking the starlight.”
“Are you sunbathing?!” Brody's horrified expression speaks volumes.
“Oh, good lord.” Rush's hand clamps down on Chloe's left arm before she can make contact with his side. He can literally feel her glare and he smirks. He doesn't let go of her arm though and neither does she removes it.
“Look, Brody, we are-”
“Doing nothing!” Eli cheerfully cuts in but Chloe ignores him.
“-taking a break. The shuttle is not back yet and everything is running smoothly. So, if you don't mind, we would really love to enjoy our day in the sun.”
“Star.” Rush murmurs.
“Right, star. In the star.” Eli snorts. “Wait, what?!” Chloe's mind catches up with her words and she sits up, turns to Rush and gives him a disapproving look. “Very funny. Really.”
Rush finally opens his eyes and smiles lazily, the hand on her arm traveling up to her shoulder where he wraps his fingers around a strand of hair, gently tugging at it. “Hmm.”
Another arm snags around her middle, Eli's this time, and gently pulls her back until she's leaning against the couch again. “Remember, Chloe? Relaxing and doing nothing.”
From this position Chloe can see Brody's face perfectly and he's looking anything but relaxed. She gives him a reassuring smile and it seem to work to a certain extent. Now he looks rather dazed than terrified.
“Why don't you go and... help Volker and Lisa with their... stuff?”
Brody nods slowly. “Right, Volker. Helping Lisa. With stuff.” He turns away and leaves the deck, his body moving as if in trance.
“I think we broke him,” Eli states, earning himself a chuckle from Rush and another playful jab with the elbow from Chloe, who does try to suppress a grin of her own. “He will get used to it.” She snuggles deeper into the couch, the side of her body brushing against Rush, who wraps his arm around her shoulder and nestles her against his side.
With a heavy sigh, all three relax again, close their eyes and enjoy their rare moment of peace and quiet. No fight, no emergencies, no equations.
Doing nothing is definitely their favorite way to spend their spare time.
