He whirls around about half a second too late, curses under his breath, then warily starts walking around the room, sort of spinning as he does so in order to take everything in. He stops at one of the signs, reads it over, and scoffs before resuming his room-wandering.]

[He looks a little concerned.] I don't see the girls. Either means they're safe, or we need to find them.

Okay, two birds with one stone. We look around, see what we can find. If we find the exit first, check whether the girls are at home. If we don't, we'll probably find them here anyway.

Good plan. [Apparently the start of the plan, to him, means he should open the nearest door and peek inside - it opens to the edge of a cliff in the middle of a violent rainstorm, though, so he immediately closes it again, his expression wide-eyed.]
