It was beautiful, it was well put together, but there wasn't a soul to be found. A little bell sat on the counter that might be some hope of getting help.
But drifting up from a staircase leading down was music and a mans voice singing,
Lorne was alone in the bar today save for Goblimon who was behind the bar.
The lobby was nicer than Jio had expected. For that matter, it was probably the nicest looking place he'd ever been in. For a moment he wondered if it was too nice of a place to take him, but he quickly kicked that thought out of his mind. He was going to have an even better place one day, so now was the time to get used to it.
Assuming that the voice was talking to someone else, he rang the bell.
"Come on in!" The voice called from the bar and a Goblimon in a bowler hat stuck his head around the door frame, "Oh hey, bring it in." He waved Jio towards the bar.
Jio followed Goblimon down to the bar. It was just as nice as the lobby had been, but Jio was more interested in the green man that he recognized from the information on the Hyperion that he'd found.
"I'm Jio Freed." He bowed to Lorne. "It's nice to meet you."
Lorne bowed right back and then plucked a blue colored drink from the table nearby, "Nice to meet you Jio, I'm Lorne and this is my Hotel, now tell me honestlly, was the song a bit too vulgar? I don't normally curse but I don't like changing lyrics unless I have to."
Jio would've preferred a lower-wattage smile, but he was otherwise over his dislike of constantly smiling people and so he didn't comment on it.
"I heard that you let people stay here for free while they're lookin' for work. With a city this big I shouldn't have trouble findin' work fast, so I was wonderin' if I can stay here for a while."
"Absolutely!" Lorne seemed ultimately pleased with the newcomer, "We love to welcome new tamers with open arms. Our Hotel has all the accommodations a young man like yourself could want or need to start your life here in this world of monsters mayhem and magic!"
Goblimon rolled his eyes and picked up another glass to clean.
Jio admired Lorne's sales pitch...wait...no he didn't. It was too much, especially since the sale had essentially already been made. He rolled his eyes.
"My world's kinda like this, 'cept the monsters can't talk and there's O-Parts insteada magic."
"Well then it sounds like you'll get along just fine Oreo~." Lorne cooed, "There is just one little thing and then I can show you to your room. As a matter of security I need you to sing a little."
Lorne laughed delighted, "Strange isn't it? It's just a method we have. It lets me read you and your intentions." He sighed "Unfortunately we've had a few too many incidents so I have to be really careful for the people who live here."
Jio suddenly looked nervous. What if he finds out about Satan? he wondered. Should I risk it? But he'll know I'm hidin' somethin' if I leave now, and this is the best place to be if I'm lookin' for work... No, Ruby's holdin' Satan back now. Lorne'll only find out about me this way.
His nervousness subsided somewhat, but as he thought about it, he realized that there was another problem...
"That's alright anything will do." Lorne's smile never wavered as he sipped his drink. He was a man who gave off the air of having no problems. "Just hum a few bars and that should be enough. Maybe a jingle or even just the music from that song I was singing when you got here."
Jio nodded and took a deep breath before trying to sing what he remembered of the song that Lorne had been singing earlier. Though he didn't get most of the lyrics right, and had to fill in the blanks with humming, he was at least carrying a tune that sounded more-or-less like the actual song, though nobody would be able to call it "good". "Okay" might be pushing it a bit, but it wasn't "terrible" either, and it was certainly enough for Lorne to be able to read him

"How'd that sound?" He called politely.

"I've heard worse. Dunno why you'd care about that though. Pretty much everyone swears sometimes anyways."

Stepping down from the stage and flicking the karaoke machine off. "Now how can I help you?"
