Quatre would likely hear the trail end of some argument as he got closer to the back work area where Sokka had his forge. It seemed he and his partner were in a fairly heated debate.
"--ot going to help me then I'm not going to pay you! It's as simple as that!" Sokka was saying, his voice steadily getting louder.
"How is that fair?!" Hawky protested noisily, though from further away.
"It just is! It's--" the door swung open, Sokka shirtless and already dirty from whatever he had been working on earlier. He stopped moving when he saw Quatre. "Oh. Hey..."
"Alright..." He cleared his throat and then pulled out the drawing he'd done. "Well...sorry this is so messy, but hopefully you can get the basic idea from it." He laid out the drawing on the counter, holding the edges down.
"Wood working? Uh, I've done a little," the teen admitted, running a hand over his hair as he straightened again, "I made some practice swords for a studio a couple weeks ago, actually."
"I see...I just wanted to know if you might be able to make a wooden set for me as well. For practicing with. If you can't that's fine." Quatre said with small smile.
"I could give it a try. Weight might be an issue, though..." Sokka admitted, glancing at Quatre's hands. He knew what had happened, since it was so soon after Quatre had gotten the first set of kunai from him, but he was trying to politely not bring it up or ask just how his friend had managed to replace his hands so easily.
Nodding, he realized that Sokka had been looking at his hands, and slipped them into his pockets. "I can learn to handle the weight I think...though it may not be right away."
"You have to build your strength up to be able to deal with heavier weights, though. If you take on too much you might just wind up hurting yourself," Sokka pointed out, making a point to look away since Quatre still seemed so self conscious about his hands. "The more your weapon is like an extension of yourself the easier it is to use. At least that's what my teacher taught me."
"I know...I wasn't planning on jumping right into this...I'd just rather have them. In case...well, in case anything else happens. I'm working as much as I can towards moving forward, and not screwing my arms up more. I'm just not used to working so slow. All my training was rushed before..." Quatre paused, "Annnnd you don't want to hear my stupid complaints...sorry."
"Your complaints are better than his," he said, motioning back at where Hawky was sitting near the forge, ruffled and still looking irritated. A beat, and he looked apologetic for saying it like that. It wasn't exactly sympathetic sounding, which would have been something Katara would have gotten on his case about if she was there to do it.
He leaned back against the counter, and pulled his hands out of his pockets looking down at them. "Thanks. ...Sokka, this might sound strange, but, if...if someone hurt you and your friends, really badly, would you want revenge on them? So they could never hurt anyone again..."
"...everyone that I've asked has had that same answer. And when it comes to the person who hurt Suoh and Duo and Allen, I'd like to see him dead. But...but not Jake."
"Oh. Hey..."
