It had become a noteworthy thing to the point of being a tired subject, that Ben Reilly's luck wasn't always the greatest.
He had been hit with a Digital World virus once before. The Sins virus. He had robbed an electronics store.
As was evident by the LCD TV still sitting in his place of employment, he was not entirely certain those items had ever gotten returned when his bosses knocked him out.
Some hour or so ago, things had been going swimmingly. He'd just run down a couple of jewerly store thieves. Unthanked and actually told by the store owner to leave before he was shot, Spidey took that as a hint to move along.
Swinging along, he'd noticed a bouquet of flowers sitting in someone's window.
...
Next thing he knew, he was up here on this ledge picking the petals off of them.
Viruses were funny things. They could have a different effect on many people in many different ways.
For Ben, it was the crushing realization of depression that he'd not had a proper date in years, generally a product of the fact that every relationship he'd had in his short life had generally crashed and burned in the most horrible ways possible.
Then there were the relationships he REMEMBERED having, but didn't really.
Which ended even worse.
"She-"
He looked down at the flower stems clutched in his hands.
"...I'm out of petals."
...
He cocked his head to the side, rather absently. "...I don't even remember where I left off at!"
