"You watch your companions throw their attacks at me with formation and strategy, only to be cut down..." Vergil observed, closing his eyes in the face of the incoming attacks, the translucent summoned blades still spinning around him.

As the wave of imminent devastation bore down upon Vergil, he simply vanished. When he reappeared a moment later, he was twenty feet to the left of where he had been standing, holding the hilt of Yamato and the sheath in his hands. "And this is the plan you come up with. Foolishness!" he taunted.

Even as he spoke, space seemed to be warping between him and his enemies. There was a brief hum accompanying the distortion, and the light and air seemed to bend in not one, but three spheres that drew themselves in a line across the digimon.

Vergil released his attack then. In one instant Yamato was in its sheath, and in the next Vergil held the blade as though he'd just made a gargantuan slice. The spheres collapsed then, the vacuum cuts ripping into all four of the digimon.

Vergil wasn't done, though. The rest of Raptor squadron, child-level digimon far too weak to be on part of the field, needed to be taught the lesson as well. All five of Vergil's blades whipped through the air, forming an arch of blades above his head with their tips aimed into the charging squadron. And Vergil wasted no time or words in sending the blades streaking forward.

While the Digi-Eggs of their higher leveled comrades fell to the street, the Child Digimon raced forward... only to meet a quick, bitter end at the hands of Vergil's flying blades.

Roosting high above a nearby building, though, was yet another, in this case SMALLER, squadron - this one consisting entirely of Cockatorimon. They had one, expressed purpose...

Which was displayed as each one unleashed blasts from their eyes down at the half-demon; beams that would upon impact, turn their petrify their opponents, transforming them into helpless stone.

Vergil almost didn't notice the petrifying gazes until it was too late. Almost.

At the last possible second, his head whipped to gaze towards the Cockatorimon, and he hurled his body to the side. He landed in a roll and returned to his feet, sprinting towards the building where the Cockatorimon were roosting. "Run, you cowards," he called out in anger. "You have until I get up there to try and save your own lives!"

He reached the side of the building, and started to run up the side of the building, reaching a windowsil, and using it as a stepping stone to leap off of, climbing up the side of the building like some sort of spider.

But even as he was doing this, SangLoupmon appeared from beneath one of the birds with a howl of "BLACK MIND!", his talons shredding through the Cockatorimon's body as he leaped upwards. And even as his attack finished, he vanished from sight once again, leaving a digitama behind him. Vergil landed on the rooftop as the Digitama fell, and he dashed across the rooftop, his blade flashing in the light impossibly fast as he moved.

One Cockatorimon DID heed Vergil's warning, and could be found fleeing the scene as his brothers in arms were cut down by the half-demon's blade. Before he was about to leap and clear the distance between the building he was on and the next, however... Well, in his frantic hurry to not die horribly, he... tripped. Cockatorimon was not exactly the most agile looking creature, and that showed.

Growling, though, he grabbed a communicator and yelled into it. "Now, NOW!"

Moments later, a shadow fell over Vergil, and that entire rooftop. This was due to the fact that the sun above was well covered by what was effectively a WALL of a few dozen airborne Digimon.

They had seen what Vergil had done to their comrades. They knew he wasn't to be taken lightly, now. They ALSO knew there was another battle raging just ahead of them.

Not having the time to ponder how something like Vergil existed in this world, now, the flock of Digimon descended onto Vergil. Their numbers contained every type of Digimon he'd fought in the past few minutes, and more still. Bladed weapons and rockets, walls of fire, bursts of energy, whirlwinds, and many more attacks rained down from the heavens.

More than likely, the building that Vergil was now on top of would not live to tell the tale of what was about to occur.

And at this point, many more of those soldiers FIRING those attacks were wondering the same of their own fates.

Vergil's eyes glanced upwards, and he shook his head. "Send me an army," he said in irritation. "I'll return to you a graveyard."

As the attacks closed in there was another flash of demonic steel, and the next thing anyone knew there was a man-sized hole in the roof. The first though anyone watching might have had was that Vergil was staging a tactical retreat, using the building as a shield for a better position. They would only be half-right.

As the first attacks were about to impact with the roof of the building, the building itself exploded.

Vergil had cut his way down to the bottom floor of the building, leaving holes in a line all the way down. As he dove, he'd cut through the floor with his blade in several places, weakening the structure of the building considerably. And on the bottom floor of the complex, he'd landed in a crouch, and draw his arms in close to himself. A dark sphere enveloped Vergil, drawing in everything that was around him like iron filings to a magnet. And after a moment, everything exploded outward.

The building came apart as though it were held together with kindling and mud. The digimon that had been inhabiting the building, who had been hiding from the combat taking place outside, were all thrown clear of the rubble, sent flying in every direction... except straight up.

They would be hurt, dazed, confused... but they would live. Vergil was many things, people could accuse him of being cold, uncaring, amoral... But he was one of the twin sons of the Legendary Dark Knight, Sparda. The fight was there because he'd brought it there, and the inhabitants of this place had been wisely hiding to AVOID what he'd brought to them. He wasn't so far gone that he would kill an apartment building full of people for a tactical advantage that he didn't even need. His mother had taught him better than that.

And likewise... she'd taught him the value of creating a battlefield that was to his advantage. The materials that made up the building ALSO flew in every direction... except unlike the digimon, they were also sent flying straight upward. The debris field served as chaff, impeding and slowing the progress of a great deal of the attacks.

But they would also serve as airborn spring boards, easy platforms for which Vergil could reach the approaching aerial force. Vergil rose from his crouch quickly, looking straight up... and he vanished from sight once again.

He reappeared only in flickers, barely perceptible to the sight of only the finest trained eyes on the field. He traveled beyond perception from point to point, from chunk of debris to chunk of debris, climbing higher with each successive leap, until he'd outrrun the explosion that he himself had created only seconds before.

Explosions began forming beneath him as the attacks met the debris field, and at this point, Vergil began to use the solid attacks as his platforms. A rocket served as his next stepping stone, and then a blade, which Vergil caught out of the air rather than leaping off of it. He swung it outwards, catching the blade in a whirlwind and allowing it to throw him. He hurtled an Aquilamon, and embedded the blade in its neck, leaping off of the dying bird even before his momentum had been shifted.

He flew into a group of Sabirdramon next, his blade flashing as he whirled in the air, cutting the digimon apart as he flew. He struck a flying plank with his feet an instant later, and propelled himself off of it in the other direction with timing that was exact down to the nanosecond. He reappeared above a Thunderbirmon, several summoned swords appearing above his head, and he landed on the bird's head with his legs around its neck. Hurling his body sideways and tightening his thighs quickly, he snapped the digimon's neck and hurled himself downwards, towards a parrotmon. As he fell, his summoned blades streaked outwards, skewering several other digimon that were too far away for him to reach just yet...

Streaking head-first towards the Parrotmon, he unsheathed Yamato and cleaved the blade through the bird's skull with ease. He turned his body only slightly, passing the dead bird as it was reverting to a digitama, and he kicked his legs out into it. The change in momentum sent him streaking once again in a new direction, and this time, he vanished once more. Only now were the digimon beginning to realize that their target was in their midst, and they had yet to even have a chance to counterattack.

Vergil appeared directly in front of a Garudamon next, caving in the perfect's throat with a kick as the digimon's eyes widened. The attack served to give him another springboard, and Vergil backflipped into the air with Yamato in its sheath once more. More summoned swords appeared, circling around Vergil in buzzsaw formation once again. At the apex of his jump, Vergil was directly beneath a Hippogryphomon, and upside down. That changed immediately as Vergil spun HIMSELF in the air like a rotary saw blade, Yamato once again out of his sheath, and cut the the digimon apart into several pieces the width of thinly sliced deli meat.

His momentum continued as the perfect digitamaed, and he landed atop one of a group of well-armed Hawkmon. His summoned swords, buzz-sawing away, cut the group into ribbons, and the Hawkmon he'd landed on shrieked. Vergil silenced this by slapping Yamato's sheath down into the back of its skull with a crack, and he once again vanished from sight, leaving another group of digieggs falling through the air.

His summoned swords reappeared before he did, streaking out across the aerial battlefield once more, passing through more digimon as though they were made of crepe paper. At this point, much of the debris of the building had flown as high as it would, and was beginning its fall. Vergil reappeared atop a piece of sofa that had reached its peak, and was only now beginning to fall. From that vantage point, he slammed Yamato back into its sheath, and held the blade in preparation at his side. A second passed, the sofa began to fall, and Vergil released his next attack, a string of vacuum spheres through a group of Buraimon that were trying to draw a bead on him.

And even before they fell, he was gone from sight again.

It had been thirteen seconds.

Over a third of the digimon on the attack had been reduced to digitama.

Four perfects, the leadership of two squads, were dead. Ten adults, the bulk of one squad, were dead. And over a dozen child-level digimon the grunts of a squadron... were dead.

And when Vergil appeared once again, this time atop a Birdramon, his blade flashed, slicing apart that digimon and the one flying above it. The only attacks in the air were Vergil's, now. Transluscent blue blades streaking through the sky like guided missiles, skewering digimon where they flew. The rest of the digimon descended into panic. Many scattered in the sky, isolating themselves, and becoming easy prey for Vergil's summoned swords. Others began firing attacks wildly, at anything that moved, causing damage only to their companions as they tried in vain to strike even a single blow against the swordsman in their midst.

Vergil continued to disappear and reappear as he moved, using everything in the sky to his benefit as he traversed the battlefield. There were periodic flashes of steel that caught the light of the sun as it sank towards the horizon, the only hint of where Vergil might be. Summoned blades appeared, always in proximity to Vergil, but never remaining close to for more than an instant before they propelled outwards, each blade assured to land a killing blow on a whatever unfortunate digimon Vergil had chosen to die by that blade.

Over the space of ten more seconds, two dozen MORE digimon were slain. More faced imminent death as the swords Vergil summoned continued to fly through the sky, at this point outnumbering the amount of survivors.

Any sane commander, at this point, would have called a retreat.

An Owlmon, the second in command of the leader of the last surviving squadron, was preparing to do just that. As he opened his beak, though, Vergil's blade flashed in front of him. The only sound he made was a choking gasp, and Vergil reappeared on top of his body, staring upwards at the last officer in the sky, a lone Yatagaramon.

Yatagaramon, likewise, stared down at Vergil, the two of them locking their gazes for an instant. In the next moment, blackness filled the sky as Yatagaramon beat his wings, sending light-absorbing feathers through the air. Vergil vanished from sight as the blackness spread through the sky and towards the ground, and for the next several seconds everything in the sky went unseen, though the sounds of battle, metal upon metal, cries of pain and panic, and the telling sounds of flesh being cut all told the story that anyone needed...

A few moments of silence engulfed the blackness, unnoticed as the battle of the inns raged not all that far away. Yet, when the blackness lifted, Vergil was once again on the ground, his blade piercing Yatagaramon's chest and pinning him to the ground, while his eyes stared into Yatagaramon's, as though they'd never broken their gaze in all of their fighting. All around him, debris and digitama fell like rain.

Vergil twisted Yamato in the officer's chest once, drawing forth one last cry of pain before he pulled the sword out. Vergil closed his eyes then, and raised Yamato's sheath behind his back. "In your next life, know your place," he uttered quietly, so that Yatagaramon might hear. "You were not worth as my opponent, facing the power of Sparda." He slowly draw his sword over his head, turning the point back to the ground. Yatagaramon stared up at him with dimming eyes, and Vergil lowered Yamato into its sheath. It clicked into its resting place, and at Vergil's feet, Yatagaramon burst apart and reverted to a digitama.

Vergil opened his eyes then, lowering Yamato's sheath back to his side, and he glanced around. None were left to challenge him from those squads, and much of the army was preoccupied. He raked his hand over his head deliberately, pushing his hair back into place one more. If anything more was coming... he was ready for it.
