Gilder's eyes narrowed right back, and he too crossed his arms. "You know, my dear, that's a horrible way to talk to the man who's trying to shake you from your funk," he warned, his voice irritated. "It might make me reconsider my generous offer."

He turned, momentarily collecting himself. Oh, she was figuring out his buttons. It was wonderful to have a worthwhile opponent for once, but... She'd managed to get a barb beneath his skin. "If I wanted to flatter you, I'd simply lie," he said with his back turned, looking out over the Neon City skyline. "A blue rogue does not engage in thievery for fun, nor do they engage in useless fights. There has been no armada assembled in this world to turn my crew against, we've been reduced to treasure hunting and targetting the criminal enterprises protected by the government, a difficult feat when one considers that they're all land-locked and hidden away with cowards' subterfuge."

He turned his head and fixed a glare on her. "Which DATS has only been even less successful at stopping, I might add," he added. "I have no idea what your motivations are, other than whatever 'interests' you. I can promise you any number of things that MIGHT interest you, though I can already tell that most will fall well short."

He turned his head away from her and held up his fist. With each of his next points, he would extend on finger in emphasis. "One, we're going to be fighting the corruption of Tetha and their bastard fleet of stolen ships that they're planning to turn on the rest of the world. A fight for justice if I ever heard of one. Two, I'm assembling a force that can survive such a fight, and I don't mind saying it's going to be something to see. Three, and this one will really fail to impress..." he added. "We're going to get filthy stinking rich off of this. Me and my crew from my will be giving most of the money to the primary villages of the world, among other needy causes. Whatever you want to do with your share of the plunder is up to you. And finally, I thought on a personal level that you needed someone to look out for you, not as a guardian, but as a contemporary. I may be a young fool compared to you, but I like to think I'm head and shoulders above the rest of the minds in this world in most regards that count."

He turned and pointed at her, no small shred of Bravado behind the gesture. "I don't pretend to know what drives you, so I would appreciate the same courtesy in return," he pointed out. "And since you're sitting back and doing nothing, I figured that the considerable experience I've seen in your taunts is going to waste. I'd like to use that to smoothe out what's going to be a very rocky operation, and as I said, I do not care if I have to bribe you to do it."

He swung his arm outward then, and pointed over the side of the boat. "If you're not interested, I put you back down there and leave you alone. Simple as that. I'm many things, but my criminal behavior is limited to the people that deserve it. You deserve a good kick in the ass, not a forceful kidnapping and conscription," he pointed out. "As I repeatedly note, and everybody seems to ignore... all you need to say is 'No', and I'll let my scheme drop."

C.C. stared at him for a long moment, and gave a wide smirk. Yes, that was about what she was fishing for.

Satisfied, she raised a hand and ran it through her hair. "I think that will do," she said, shortly. "So. When do we get started, hm?"

PicoDevimon sighed, settling on the ground. Oh. This was going to be worse than dealing with Matadormon, she knew it...

Gilder's grin was shaken, but not false. "Like I said, my dear, I'm quite sure you've got tricks that most people couldn't even imagine," he told her. "We're heading back to the Claudia now. My new crew is getting training so they've got sea legs, and we'll be setting sail for Tetha in three days."

Muchomon stared between C.C. and Gilder, and he ruffled his feathers in irritation. The accompanying sailor laughed, and gave Muchomon a grin. "You can pay me back at the bar," he said.
