All that aside, Konata now had a reputation to maintain. And she'd always wanted to do something along the lines of, well...
"What is... a hero? A true hero- ... aah, sorry, give me a second."
The mysterious cloaked stranger took a moment to catch her breath. She HAD been running for a while, after all.
"... anyway!" She cleared her throat before clenching her fist dramatically.. "A true hero is one who beats the game using only three lives, no continues, and no resets! A true hero is one who believes in those who have no one else to believe in, and takes down those who would make the black wind howl! A true hero is one who leaves no background character behind! And finally, a true hero..."
The mysterious stranger cast aside her cape, revealing a grinning lunatic otaku. "... always enters the scene with an amazingly cool pose!" She thrust an arm up, pointing dramatically at the sky. "Konata Izumi... has arrived~!!"
Vi-Elecmon, trailing Konata by a few paces, was too busy trying to call up Mion's partner and fill him in on what was actually going on to snark at Konata being Konata.

"...You're really short for a hero."

She cleared her throat. "Anyway! Ignoring my height for a moment..." Konata extended a hand out to the shorter girl, grinning widely. "I've come to take you to a safe place!" Or at least a place where Konata could keep an eye on mini-Mion.

"Wh-why's a giant rabbit-thing following you?" She asked, edging back.
Rabbit-thing. Okay, why not.

Vi's friendly, specifically-non-intimidating smile twitched slightly. "That doesn't really HELP, Konata," she said in a pleasant singsong voice.
"... so don't worry, she's an ally of justice, too!"
Reply
Because naturally, that's what the little kid believed.

"We try not to kill if it's not necessary," Vi translated, interrupting Konata's monologue. "By the way, did the demon follow you out into the fields, or...?"
Reply
Oh, that would be difficult.

"At the very least, Impmon died as he'd lived: tormented by girls who could beat the everliving crap out of him," was they didn't say.
Instead, Konata reached out to pat Mion on the head. "Good job. You sure showed him. And don't worry, we'll take it from here! ... Vi, go make sure he isn't dead won't be bothering Mion anymore," she added.
"Right, right... why did we ever worry that Mion couldn't take care of herself?"

Was this the kind of story little kids in Hinamizawa were told to make sure they didn't wander off...?
(Impmon, of course, was inside the Royal Base, near Mion's room, groaning on the ground. Wimp.)

Konata's grin nearly cracked. "N-No one's going to get eaten if I have anything to say about it, okay? I'm going to make sure that... that..."
Honestly, Konata was still having trouble wrapping her mind around the current situation. How was she supposed to reconcile this tiny little go-getter with that busty tsundere mischievous-yet-dependable badass!?
(Vi could barely suppress a groan of her own. "Why am I not surprised by any of this?" she muttered, moving to help Impmon up. "Come on, every second I spend away from my partner is another opportunity for her to do something really, really dumb.")
Konata suddenly tried to wrap her arms around Mion, pick her up, and start twirling the little girl around. "How could they tell you a story like that!? You're so adorable!! As expected of my future wi- ally! There shouldn't have been any way for you to turn into a gunslinging old man!!" she gushed.
("... though I'm probably way too late to stop her already," Vi added.)
Reply
How could a little girl turn into an old man? And guns? Her mother's friend Kasai had one of those, but she wasn't allowed to use them, because they could hurt someone. She would never go against her mother's -- or worse, Onibaba's -- wishes, not unless they were being unfair to her sister.
"K-Konata-oneechan!! I-I'm getting dizzy!!"
(Impmon roused, rubbing his nose. It was darker than usual -- a bruise. "She's a kid, right? Not just a really small adult? Jeez, how hard can a kid punch?"
Naturally, he wasn't listening to Vi.)

"Anyway, Vi will catch up to us later. Big sis'll take you to a safe place up in the sky, okay?" Konata said, resting her chin on the top of Mion's head. (Only later will Konata realize just how much she's taken after her father's clingy ways.)
("Hard enough to almost break your nose, it looks like," Vi retorted, handing Imp an ice pack (which she's made a habit of bringing whenever they go to visit Mion and Impmon). "Now, exactly what happened?")
Reply
"Where're we going?" She was starting to get back into her mind that she was supposed to be acting like a big sister in case anyone from Hinamizawa found her.
(Impmon leaned against the wall, wincing at the ice pack but also letting out a sigh of relief. "Mion turned into a kid over night. I was trying to figure out just what to do with her, how to explain it and then...what kind of prank to pull," he said the last part very fast. "But then when I tried to move her she woke up and started screaming. She ran, I tried to catch her, she unleashed her Megaton Punch."
Both of them hung out around Konata too much.)

"For now, you're gonna live with big sis until we can figure out how to get you back!" Back to being normal Mion, that is. Konata didn't have the heart to tell her that she wasn't technically going to be able to go back to Hinamizawa.
(That much went without saying.
"Figures." Vi decided to let the prank part slide. Impmon was just socked in the face, after all. "But it's not like you'd know that she'd come back without her memories. Anyway, your story basically matches up: Mion seems to think that you're some kind of nightmare plot monster come to life," she continued briskly. "She'll be staying with us for a while."
Vi paused. "... though I'd appreciate it if, um..." She trailed off, looking a little bluer than usual.)

The fact that she wasn't on Earth or even in Japan anymore had not crossed her mind.
(Impmon was about to make some comment about how he couldn't even protect her when she was a kid, that she could protect herself better, that he couldn't do anything right it seemed--
But then Vi looked really weird. "What? Got something stuck in your throat?" Was she choking?
