"... That's the way it ends up bein' most of the time."

There came a shifting sound of gears and machinery, followed by the heavy clonk of large metal feet. Ratchet had been dozing in the garage again.

"You look like you need someone to talk to..."

Maes wasn't sure whether he really had the right to be interfering considering just how short a time he had been in the digital world (his previous, unremembered stint there notwithstanding), but he couldn't help it. There were so many people here who were so ... well, dysfunctional, for lack of a kinder term. It was the same thing he'd seen in Roy when they were younger ... the need for something stable. An anchor.

For all that he spoke to Haku about taking care of one's self as well, he sure as hell didn't take his own advice, he thought ruefully. Then again, he was in a much more stable place than she was. Haku was well-meaning, but it was clear that whatever she was trying to provide to her friends was something she still desperately needed herself. And all he could offer for now was pie. He'd baked it last night--he needed something to do, anything to do, when he woke up and Gracia wasn't there, just like the two or three other nights that week--and it was his best try to date (although nothing on Gracia's pie, of course ( ... )

Haku jumped a little, letting out a bit of a strained gasp before she realized who it was.

"Oh... Ratchet... hi..." she mumbled, sniffling and rubbing at her eyes with the back of her hand.

"I don't know... I kinda feel like I've talked myself to death about it... and it's not even really my problem..."

At that, she let out a quiet laugh with her arm still over her eyes, stopping only when she heard footsteps approaching. Blinking, she lowered her arm and looked up, mildly surprised. She hadn't expected him to actually show up.

"... Hughes-san..."

"... I thought you got sent back," Ratchet said, taking note of Hughes presence.

"... Depends. If it's affectin' you like this kid, then it's obviously partly your problem..."

She'd been worried, so she came to find her sister.

... In her pajamas.

What she was wearing didn't matter though; Miku was worried, and she was going to make sure Haku was all right before she even thought about sleep for the night.

Upon finding the door wide open, she knew her trip wasn't in vain. She walked in, looking around for her sister and finding her, stepping up closer, quietly.

"HakuHaku ..."

Haku blinked tiredly, lifting her head at the voice, a little surprised to see Miku there in her pajamas.

"Miku... what--... y-you shouldn't have come out here alone, nee-chan..."

She giggled a little, stepping a little closer.

"I was worried about HakuHaku."

"Mm... but... it's still dangerous out there..."

Haku fidgeted, then stood and stumbled over to Miku, pulling her in to a tight hug.

"What if something happened to you... ?"
