Who: Doumeki, Moro and Watanuki
What: He only has one fear...
When: November 14th, evening
Where: Near the Hinata Inn

It had been a fairly lazy day for Doumeki. Not having a shift that day meant he could sleep in a bit, and run a couple of errands if he wanted to. He really wound up lazing about the apartment for most of the day, but as the sun started to set in the early evening he realized he'd better get moving before all the shops closed.

He didn't think to tell Watanuki he was going anywhere, but he had enough mind to put a note on his door in case the other boy did come looking for him. It was short and to the point - 'running errands, back later'. He figured nothing would happen to him just going to the store, and for the most part he was right. Walking there was peaceful, with Moro on his shoulder humming cheerfully, and walking back with his groceries (of course forgetting that the D-Reader could store them) was just as calm, if not a little quieter on the darkening street.

As he neared the Hinata Inn, the sun sank below the horizon line of the island, and the street lights clicked on one by one, and while in reality they stayed on just fine, his eyes, and Moro's eyes saw something different - they turned off all at once, drowning the street in absolute darkness. He stumbled to a halt, looking around worriedly.

"... Dou-kun... ?" Moro asked quietly, voice trembling.

"I don't know..." Doumeki answered, still gazing up at the lights as if they would come back on. Moro, however, was looking forward.

"... Dou-kun... i-isn't that Wata-kun up there?"

Doumeki's head jerked down, eyes narrowing as he saw a lanky figure in the darkness. Hesitantly he took a step forward, and the figured turned, face just barely illuminated in the haze. It was Watanuki, and he was looking strangely sad. Before Doumeki could say anything, Watanuki turned and ran away, darting in to an alley way between two buildings and vanishing from sight.

"H-hey! Watanuki!" Doumeki cried out, though it didn't stop Watanuki at all. Letting his bags fall to the ground forgotten, he ran towards the alley, feeling a strange panic well up in his chest. But when he got to the alley, his friend was no where to be found.

"Ne... wh-where'd he go, Dou-kun?" Moro asked, peering around. Doumeki just shook his head, panting for breath as he felt his chest tighten for no good reason.

"I couldn't... just imagine that, could I?"

"I saw him, too..."

But there was not a sign of Watanuki anywhere in the alley. With no other choice, Doumeki backed out of the alley, making to turn back to the things he'd dropped. That's when Moro looked up...

and saw Watanuki standing on the ledge of the building's roof, arms held out as if he were attempting to take off from the ledge in flight.

"DOU-KUN!" she screamed in panic, getting his attention to where she was looking. Doumeki spun around, staring up at the roof, eyes gone huge with fright.

"He wouldn't-..."

"He's going to!"

"Watanuki, DON'T!"

Doumeki's heart sank to his feet as he watched, dumbstruck and helpless. Watanuki teetered on the edge, and as if in slow motion, leaned forward until he fell away completely. Doumeki couldn't watch, but Moro couldn't turn away.

Closing his eyes, hands thrown up over his ears, it didn't stop the sound of the sickening crunch and thud that sounded when Watanuki hit the ground. True, this never happened in reality, but to Doumeki and Moro it was all too real, even the spray of warm, sticky blood that hit them.

Doumeki refused to open his eyes, even as his knees gave out and he collapsed to the floor, but Moro was staring, trembling and sobbing.

"H-help him... Doumeki... g-get up and help him... y-you gotta get up a-and-... you gotta... Wa... Wata-kun... h-he can't..."

And while Doumeki remained painfully silent, Moro let out a shrill, echoing scream in to the night.
