King Bowser Koopa stood patiently in the center of Mordred Castle's courtyard. He was expecting James's return with what could almost be called eagerness. Behind him, Kamemon paced nervously, looking at a clipboard with beads of sweat on his brow. Bowser would undoubtedly take his frustrations out on him if things did not go as planned.
On the battlements and in the windows of the castle, a large crowd of the Koopa Troop had gathered to watch what was coming. Money was being passed around as enterprising Troopas had set up betting pools over what might happen. Would James come? Would Bowser destroy him? Would he triumph over Bowser? Would Bowser or Joe count this diversion as unpaid vacation time? Even knowing that the last bet's odds were straight even for "Yes" on the last one, the Troopas had still gathered. This kind of entertainment was a rare delight at the castle.
Bowser all but ignored the Troopas' flaunting the rules, though. It was simply the way evil operated, after all. Instead, he was content to wait. "What do you say, Troopa, five more minutes before we track him down?" Bowser asked.
"Whatever you say, sir," Kamemon gulped. "The Clown Car is fueled and ready."
"Good, good," Bowser replied tranquilly. "Come now, James, I've invested a lot of patience in you. Do not disappoint me."
