Rubbing her neck, Karin approached Negi, slightly unsure of the whole idea. But, after the recent incidents, a bit of training wouldn't hurt.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Karin?" her DORUmon asked.

"...no, not really. But, if I'm going to protect Negi-kun, then..." Karin said, trailing off. Stopping as she got close, she nodded at Negi. "I'm ready! I... I think."

Negi nodded. "All right, first I should start with stances. Chinese Martial Arts is all about countering until you can go on offensive. There's many disciplines but for the purposes of this, we'll start with the basics."

Negi stepped to Karin's side and shifted into a stance. "All right, first thing is the stance. Not too wide, not too tight. Note the positioning of the feet."

"O-Okay...!" Karin said, trying to adjust herself to how Negi was, though there was some obvious mistakes in there. "You mean, like this...?"

Negi relaxed his stance as he circled in close to Karin. Reaching around her small body, he gently corrected her stance, widening her legs and moving her shoulders. "Like that," he said. "And then you want to curl your fists up like this, tucking the thumb under instead of across the forefinger. It prevents hurting yourself."

Karin nodded, allowing Negi to fix her stance. "So, like this then...?" Negi could probably notice Karin getting slightly uncomfortable over readjusting her fists. "...it feels so weird doing this..."

"That's because it's done correctly," smiled Negi as he reached over and pulled her arm gently. "See, when you punch like this in a straight motion, you have less spin in the impact. But when you punch correctly, it's sort of a twisting motion, putting the shoulder into the strike."

"Oh, I see!" Karin said. She understood what he was talking about, but even still, the feeling of it was still odd for her. "I kinda wished I knew how to fight before hand, though..."

She trailed off, remembering how her aunts - from both worlds - tended to fight.

Negi laughed a little. "Not everyone is meant to fight hand to hand Karin-chan. Sometimes a little ranged attacking is what you're strong in."

"That's right, Aniki used to be a traditional mage, casting spells from the back lines until circumstances had him fighting on the front lines later on," chimed in Chamo-kun.

Negi nodded. "With your ability and artefact, you could very well fill either role."

"Hmm... that's true..." Karin said. "Then again, I'll never know if I don't try...!"

"Oh, no, I'll go let someone know...!" DORUmon said, shaking her head.

Negi nodded. "Lets try out some light sparring. My Master wasn't big on kata or anything since she was really hands on. I'll coach you into the moves, sound good?"

Chamo sweatdropped. "Well I suppose this could be good or bad..."

"Okay, then!" Karin said, nodding as she stepped away from Negi and went back into the previous stance, flaws and all.

"...I don't know. This is a girl who's pretty much been pampered for most of her life." DORUmon said. "Well... that's what she told me."

Negi nodded as he slowly threw a punch at Karin's left to get her used to something coming at her.

"Eeesh, true that," replied Chamo. "Hope Aniki realizes not everyone's inhumanly durable as he is."

Karin instinctively flinched to dodge the punch, before throwing a punch of her own back at Negi, not putting a lot of power into the throw.

"...yep, I hope Karin realizes that, herself!" DORUmon said.

Negi gently parried the attack. "Flinching happens," he soothed as he threw another punch, this one going a little wide to the right. "Getting USED to the punches coming at you: that's an entirely different thing all together."

Chamo nodded, sweatdropped at Karin's flinch and said, "Wow, she's... just a kid. So different from Aniki."

"... Aniki's a combat wombat. I realize this now," finished Chamo.

Karin tried to control her flinch with the next attack, but still ended up doing it before returning with her own punch. "O-Okay... I'll do that...!"

DORUmon nodded at Chamo's assessment. "Yep. Those two are so different there..."

Negi nodded and threw a few more at seemingly random areas in order to quicken her response to the attacks. "Parry with the forearm in a half-moon motion to keep un-needed motion from overtaking your arm."

"They kinda remind me of Aniki and Jouchan, Nodoka, one of his partners from back home," mused Chamo-kun. "She's a sort of timid and gentle girl but she's got an iron will that one. And it helps that her book is powerful, and able to read minds."
