Who: Haku and partner, anyone else who wants to find her What: Haku can't take what's happening to her siblings When: Backdated 7th, going on afternoon-ish Where: Neon City streets
Selene was walking to her place of employment, commuting from Tetha as she always did. Perfectly normal routine really, even with the instant transportation.
Having a girl run into her was new though.
"Oof!" Selene grunted as she hit the ground. "Hey, watch it!"
"OOMPH" Haku grunted as she landed on the girl, elbow striking the ground roughly. She quickly scrambled to her feet, though, not taking the time to check if the other person was alright. Rubbing at her eyes, face stained and damp with tears, she attempted to stumble away.
Selene looked over at the woman who ran into her, the annoyance at being run into vanishing when she caught on the woman was in a bad state. Quickly pushing herself to her feet, she reached out to grab Haku's arm. "Wait a sec," she said. "Are you okay?"
She really didn't want to talk about it. Most people would think she was probably insane anyway, right? But for some reason it just tumbled forth.
"I-I don't want to be here! This place did something horrible to my siblings and now they're... they... they don't even recognize me, or at least me like I'm supposed to be to them and I can't fix them and... and..."
Her pace slowed, shoulders shaking as they slumped and she began to sob outright, pressing her hands to her face.
"I wanna go home. I want them to go home with me. I can't take this."
Selene stepped in front of her, putting her hands on her shoulders. "There, there, it'll be all right," she said in a soothing tone, processing what the woman said. She was used to listening to broken things like that.
"Your siblings...think you're someone else?" She asked. "That right?"
Haku hiccuped loudly, trying to hold back another sob but failing, and nodded.
"Len nii-san doesn't even recognize me at all, but Rin nee-san kept saying "Miss Haku" like I wasn't her sister anymore. And they were talking about a hospital and fences and-and I don't even know what else! I don't know where this all came from!"
"Hmm...well, it could be a virus. Or possibly someone else messing with their heads," Selene murmured, looking thoughtful. "Did they recognize you before this incident?"
"Y-yes! We hadn't found Len yet, but Rin was with me all week and she was FINE. But suddenly there's a message on her D-Comm from her partner saying she's defective and talking funny and when I found her they... just... it was like... they weren't even..."
Haku crumbled, falling to her knees, burying her face in her hands as she sobbed uncontrollably.
"Can't help them... no virus... systems are fine... wh-what can I do?! I'm useless!"
"Len? Kagamine Len?" Selene asked, looking surprised. That boy had been doing shows at the bar. Said he was a...Vocaloid, or something to that affect. A robot. Something was wrong with the kid's systems?
She looked at Haku seriously. "We're gonna help them, okay?" She said and smiled. "It might just be one of the viruses of the Digital World. They'll hit sometimes, but they always go away. That seems likely if they were hit at the same time."
It was difficult to reign back such extreme emotion, but the twins had been everything to Haku ever since been taken in to their home. Having them not remember her was like her arrival in the digital world all over again - alone, with no family and no way out.
"I-I don't know... if it was a virus why didn't it get me too? We're all linked... I just... it hurt..." she admitted weakly, lowering her hands away from her face and wrapping her arms around her stomach, curling slightly, "It hurt so bad to not have them know me as nii-chan..."
"It's because that's what the Digital World does. Some people are hit and others aren't, no matter their connection," Selene said, gently touching her chin to get her to stand up a bit straighter and smiled. "But it's only temporary. Soon, they'll be back to normal and singing, and calling you nee-chan."
Haku shivered a bit. The tears and flood of emotions had drained her, and she'd left the jacket Sabine had lent her back at DATs, meaning her arms were still exposed. Though it was daytime and not terribly cold yet, everything was just making her more and more drained. She was grateful, at least, that she couldn't get sick like a normal human.
"But until then, what can I do? They didn't even want to come back with me where I could make sure they were safe..."

"I usually am a rowdy drunk..." she admitted, but the humor was short lived as her frown returned. "I don't want to frighten them.
