Koushirou sighed as he walked through Tetha. It had been 6 years since it had happened, but after the whole huge debacle that nearly cost them the world because of one stupid fight...well, he was going to tread carefully.
Ever since then buying Sora Takenouchi a birthday present had never been easy.
And now that he could actually see properly he felt he should get ahead of the game on this one. But there was still one thing that troubled the genius in general. What the hell did a guy friend get a girl turning 16? He'd asked Tentomon but he'd come up dry (his partner was still a little depressed as to not having and answer from Piyomon) and when he insisted that Tentomon come with him the digimon fell asleep. He couldn't blame him, he hated shopping too.
Then he saw Konata and caught a glimpse of her talking about RPG's. He smiled; a break couldn't hurt.
"NPC?" Konata looked up and blinked as recognition set in. "Ah, you're... Koushirou Izumi, right?" she said, more for the look of things than for confirmation. A thought flitted across her mind as she looked at the taller boy. ... why do I keep expecting these people to look like they did in season 1?
"No, well..." Konata waved a hand. "In your case, you more than qualify as a PC," she said with a grin. "Trust me on this."
Koushirou grinned. "I will, after all I've never really played RPG's so I wouldn't know. I just know a little from some of Ryo's ramblings. And um, yes, I'm Koushirou. I'm assuming you're Konata?"
"Really? I would've thought that RPGs would fit your playing style... you seem like you'd be really good at them." That, or strategy games. "-- and yup. Konata Izumi."
Konata paused. "... er. No relation," she added with a grin.
"Well, truth be told I don't really play any form of games. I've never really had much of an interest for them, I much prefer coding and hacking, and even then I'm not very good at them. Even the odd times when Taichi and Yamato would drag me away from my computer and to the arcade I was never very good, the only one I felt I could have been good at was DDR...except my body is far too uncoordinated." he said, ending with a bit of a chuckle.
Then, he grinned wider.
"Well, I can see there is one Izumi gene that does transcend alternate realities."
"Really? Hmm... ah, well. At least hacking and coding are useful real-world abilities," Konata chuckled. "And I can definitely agree with you on that last part," she continued. "DDR's too much like actual exercise."
The shorter girl scratched the back of her head. "Izumi genes...? Y'know, when you put it THAT way, it sounds like we're alternate reality versions of each other or something." Konata paused at that. "... I'm not sure if that thought's really weird or really amusing."
"Well, it was several years ago when I tried it. I was still just a kid and was completely uncoordinated. Things have changed in the past 7 years. I could be good at it now."
Kou just looked down at her pointedly. "The fact we could both probably get government compensation for being a midget or dwarf. And I can assure you we're not. You'd have red hair if we were."
"Yeah... a few games of DDR can really take a lot out of you, though. And have you seen some of the higher levels of play?" she added.
"Hmm." Konata looked back up at the taller Kou. "... that's a really blunt way of putting it, but you've got a point there. -- and red hair, huh...?" She thought for a moment. "Well, having red hair would be kinda odd for me. I mean, it'd be really easy for me to cosplay as Blazing-Eyed Shana, but that's a whole other problem in itself..."
"Well, I've seen them but I've never tried them. Actually, I've been meaning to try it again sometime. I have heard it's a good workout and the required thinking process for the game is something I could use right now. And I say red hair because, well, it's been shown that anyone who has any genetic relation to me has the same bright red hair."
He looked at her for a second eyes narrowing, thinking.
"Actually, I was wondering if I could implore your assistance. I'm...currently running a task that I'm not very good at and I need some help and you might be able to do so."
"It's not so much thinking as it is quick reflexes, but it'll still clear your mind. Do they even HAVE DDR here?" Konata muttered as a quick aside.
She merely blinked back at Kou, on the verge of asking if there was something on her face. Konata's eyes lit up when he made his request, and she pounded a fist to her chest in a melodramatic fashion. "Sure-- you can count on me! What's the problem? -- ah, if it's fighting, though, you'll have to ask Tentomon," she added jokingly.
"Well, I know Ryo mentioned a form of Rockband was here, so I don't see why DDR wouldn't be...though it would be interesting to see certain species of digimon playing it."
Kou just let out a low chuckle. "No, no, nothing to do with fighting. If that were the case Tentomon would be with me, however it's something even he can't help me with...um...actually he refused to help me with it."
With a sigh and a gulp he finally spit it out.
"I need to get a present for a girl and I have no idea what to get."
"Whoa, really? I didn't even know that the Digital World HAD video games, let alone Rock Band." Konata pondered Kou's words for a moment. "... yeah, watching certain species of digimon playing DDR WOULD be interesting, but I feel sorry for whoever'd have to clean up up after a Numemon versus Sukamon dance-off," she said with a grimace.
"A present for a girl, huh?" Konata paused as the implications of that sank in. Much like the Chesire Cat spotting a new victim to mess with, a wide grin slowly spread across Konata's face. "... oh hoh~? Hey, hey, might she a very special someone, or...?"
Kou was just about to shudder at the thought of a Numemon and a Sukamon playing DDR then...
Then she had to go and say that.
His shudder? Turned into full out laughter.
"You...wait...you think I...with a girl?" It took him a few seconds to gain his composure before he said, "No, I just need suggestions for a birthday present for Sora."
Kou's reaction? ... not quite as planned. "Huh...?" Konata replied-- before the implication behind his wording finally sank home. "Ooh."
...
... whaddaya know, Hiyorin was RIGHT, she thought. With a mental shrug, she got back to the subject at hand. "A birthday present for Sora, huh?" Konata hrmmed, stroking her chin thoughtfully. "I can see how it'd be kinda hard to think up something for her." After a moment, she looked back up. "... maybe you could give her a blue hoodie? If she dyed her hair pink, she could pull off a decent Kumatora from Mother 3~"
"It actually amazes me how many people think I like girls." He said.
Ok, so there was Terra.
...And Asakura...and Farris...
Still, he had Ryo, and honestly he really couldn't see himself with anyone else.
"Well...um...I know her favourite colour is blue but...I don't think she's much into cosplay really. I was thinking of getting her some Tennis equipment but I thought that would be too impersonal."
"Yeah... well, I guess most people assume that everyone else's straight," Konata points out. And then she grins. "... but, hey, if they DIDN'T, you wouldn't be able to bust a gut laughing every time, right?"
She tilted her head. "Who says she needs to be in cosplay? I'd just try to get her to wear it at least once so that I could get pictures~." Konata cleared her throat. "... anyway, I think tennis equipment could work. It's not like rackets are that cheap, anyway, so I don't think you'd have to worry about it being impersonal," she pointed out. "Or... maybe you could get her a pair of earrings?"
