"Smart kid, but we already knew that." She winked and went back to her memorized definition, "The young mans tenacious grip on the blades represents selfishness and severing his ties. This card can also mean an unfair application of power, degradation and worst of all disgrace!" She began to get an inkling where this was going.

"This card also can represent theft...as you probably guessed the swords don't belong to the boy there, also deception, manipulation, unethical behavior...it's a pretty strong catch all card to say someone's gonna really dig that knife in deep." She mimed a knife as if he didn't get the full effect from just her words."

This next cards kinda weird too...naturally if the first was the past and the second was the present then card number three in my spread is a future card, and this one here is upside down so the meaning changes. When rightside up the Knight is at peace, taking a break from the world, but upside down the swords leap off the wall to him calling. He is ready to take up the blades again and can pour his focus into future plans with renewed energy. This card suggests grand oppertunities ahead but you have to be careful and put alot of consideration into them before you agree to anything." She explained.

"Finally this last card here represents how to pull it all together, this card is the eight of wands. When upright it represents clear sailing ahead, when reversed it means all your efforts are useless. It's turned on it's side in my spread for a different purpose, can you guess what that purpose is?" She asked in a coy voice.

Theft, unethical, severing ties, selfishness. All could be applied to him. The one who did not kill him, working with Kaitou Kid and Haibara, not telling anyone who he was, all because of his own selfish desires at wanting to solve a mystery.

And Conan already knew things would be dangerous, but he'd find new truths.

Conan looked at the card, frowning. "It could go either way?"

Jinx grinned and then shrugged, "Not really. Actually by my system this is upright so it's a good thing...but this card isn't supposed to be an outcome Conan, this is supposed to be a method to go from here." She tapped the first card, "To here." She tapped the third card.

"So...by that logic this card somehow contains the answer on how to awake the knight so that he can throw himself once more into righteous combat. If this spread really is about you then the knight is most likely someone you know...unless you've got a warrior buried in your spirit somewhere." She said the last part with a hint of a tease in her tone.

Conan looked at the card. "So...clear sailing versus futility is my answer?" Conan asked. At least that seemed to be what it implied.

"Not quiet shrimp, it's OK though it's a hard one to read...in so many words or less it basically means that you need to keep doing what your doing and try to smooth out as many wrinkles as possible. The less twists and turns you have to make the smoother the path from point A to point B will be."

After a moment she looked a little concerned, "Pretty heavy cards for a kid...are you sure you want to keep dealing with this LOT thing? If you don't want to tell Kaito to let you slip out of it I can talk to him for you." Jinx offered.

So all the cards tied together...

The powerful organization. The one that had to have money for what it made. The betrayal and deceit of the present, both from him and those allying with him. And the trials of the future that were sure to be difficult. And he had to find the quickest route through all that?

Easier said than done.

And then Conan started to doubt their trust worthiness when Jinx spoke. He looked up at her. So, was that it? Did she set up the cards like that to speak about LOT instead and get him to stop? It's not like she didn't know about it and knowing someone like Kaitou kid, Conan didn't doubt that she might have pulled it off. "If I wanted to stop, Kaito-niichan would support it. He didn't pull me in." Conan said in a sort of serious, childish way. "I can't let bad guys go around, hurting people." Especially those who hurt Ran.

Jinx then smirked slyly, "I knew you'd say that kid." She reached under a tablecloth to her right end drew out a Thermos of hot cider. As she poured herself a mug of it she explained, "I offered you escape once before and you turned it down for the same reason, if you pulled out now you'd be like every other kid out there. Unable to go through with the heavy task you'd chosen."

She offered him a mug of cider moving on, "Your very grown up Conan and the others may not see it but your not nearly as young as they think." She sipped her own spice laden beverage, "You've got what we in the business refer to as an "Old soul" She said setting the mug down. It was purple and had a cartoon skull on it with a pink bow. Very her style.

Conan took the mug, taking a sip of the cider, just barely avoiding spitting out the drink when she mentioned the word 'grown up.' She doesn't mean literally. Just mature for your age. Conan reassured himself.

He smiled sheepishly. "W-well, I go with uncle when he goes to his cases, or when a case happens when we're nearby. I...I couldn't just give up after seeing him deal with so many dangerous people." He said.

"Mmmhmm, most people think it's unhealthy for a kid your age to be so grown up." her gaze sharpened, "But honestly the way you handle it your better then most adults."

Bad look, bad look! Conan laughed nervously. "W-well, it's just what I grew up around..."

"I grew up around clowns and I am ridiculously scared of them now." Jinx commented off offhandedly pouring herself some more cider.

"Why are you afraid of clowns?" Conan asked, looking confused and taking another sip. How did that work out?

"They were nasty monstrous people behind happy cheery makeup and I'd rather not discuss the ways they used to go out of their way to scare me. I started as an acrobat in training till they figured out my powers for bad luck...then I was mostly a curse. on the circus." Jinx was staring very intently at her cider now, "And for the record if I really thought you were "Normal" I wouldn't be sharing this..."

"Oh." Conan said. So they conditioned her essentially. "And I'm just smart for my age! But...I know to keep certain secrets." Conan insisted.

"You know..." Jinx began with a cocked eyebrow, "I had a partner, Gizmo. He was about your age and was the smartest boy in the school...he had already graduated from MIT and was a master of all things technical...but whenever he could get away with it he'd act like a normal little boy to try and earn favor with the cops when he was busted."

She leaned forward again with that Cheshire cat grin, "Interesting concept eh?"
