There was a sudden, swift crackle in the air.

A rustle in the leaves of the trees above.

And within seconds, a shadow fell over Vergil's camp as... A Mushamon, eyes dark and ... almost seeming to have their attention focused elsewhere, fell down upon them, sword raised.

If his eyes seemed distant, though? It didn't show in the fierceness of his attack.

"WHOA!!!" Dracmon shrieked, flailing his arms as he fell away from the attack.

Vergil hadn't done more than turn his torso slightly. Mushamon's blade sliced through his arm, and Vergil turned his gaze towards him.

"I was expecting you sooner," he said simply, rising to his feet and picking up his coat in one hand and Yamato in the other. "You strike from the shadows. Typical. Disappointing."

"Vergil?!" Dracmon called out in surprise.

"What are you doing, Dracmon?" Vergil asked calmly, taking his eyes off of Mushamon to look at his partner. "We've got a fight. Quit dallying."

Dracmon frowned, then sucked in his breath as he saw Vergil's wound closing before his eyes. "Right!" he said, and was engulfed in a flash of data, evolving into SangLoupmon.

Still in rather close proximity as he thudded against the ground, Mushamon wasted little time. Within seconds as the wound began to heal, he was already turning sharply, blade swinging in a sideways motion for Vergil's head.

Vergil gave a thoughtful "hmmm," as he raised Yamato's sheath swiftly into the path of Mushamon's attack. The blade flew out of the sheath by only a couple of centimeters, but it was enough to intercept the attack with a loud clang. "Maybe I was a little presumptuous," he observed. "I don't suppose you needed to evolve for this."

SangLoupmon snarled at Mushamon, his tail lashing behind him in irritation. "You telling me to stand down?" he asked.

"No. But I have this for now," Vergil said, looking at Mushamon.

"You can do better than this..." he taunted simply, holding his coat on his arm. "I should hope you didn't make me stand up if this is all you're bringing."

"You'll have to forgive him."

The voice came from on high, as Zero - in normal armor, for the time being - stood on a particularly steady tree limb. One hand held firmly on the Sword of Light's sheath, he ... grinned. Mushamon, meanwhile, didn't go anywhere, still holding his blade against Vergil's.

"You... made quite the impression on my benefactors."

"Actually, I was talking to you," Vergil said with a cool voice. He twisted his grip on Yamato's sheath to dislodge Mushamon's sword, and he ducked his shoulder. The puff of dust on the ground was the first indication of how swift the shoulder-charge he executed was, and the fact that Mushamon was sent flying back a good fifteen feet or so was the second. As he straightened upright once more, Vergil slid his coat on and turned his gaze upwards.

"Vergil," SangLoupmon growled in warning. "That's that friend of X's..."

"You don't need to remind me," Vergil told his partner. "I recognise him. Your benefactors, you say? Allow me to spare you a great deal of suffering then. Do not bother me, and I will not bother you. You can take that back to them, and if they're wise they'll listen."

He settled into a relaxed stance and rested his hand on Yamato's hilt. "But I suppose you're looking forward to this, aren't you?" he asked dryly.

Mushamon regained his footing, and kept from falling onto his back by sinking his sword into the ground and leaning against it. But, he didn't strike back, yet.

"Sadly, not bothering you is a... liberty I do not have at my disposal. Your... partner was apart of dispatching MechaNorimon in Tetha. Twice. By simple process of elimination, it can be surmised that the one who defeated Xellos was none other than yourself..."

Zero's eyes narrowed... but the grin remained.

"But looking forward to this? ...yes, you could say that."

"Then I hope that you can bring more of a fight than he did," Vergil said as he slid his thumb against the tsuba of the Katana. He raised his other hand and beckoned for Zero. "I've been disappointed far too many times since arriving in this world. I'll give you one final warning. If you underestimate me and give me anything but your best, I'll deliver my message to your benefactors personally, by way of your severed head."

"What about him?" SangLoupmon growled, indicating Mushamon with his head.

Vergil took his gaze off of Zero briefly to look at Mushamon, and he shook his head. "Knock some sense into him if you can, he is beneath my notice."

"Right," SangLoupmon snarled, and he darted past Vergil to confront Mushamon.

"In all honesty..." Zero said in a low voice as he jumped from the limb, falling to the ground. "I'm counting on that."

He he the forest floor and immediately went into a dash, hand held over the Sword of Light in preparation to draw.

Mushamon, on the other hand, gave a feral snarl, holding his blade up defensively as SangLoupmon advanced...

...while Zero's dash boosters carried him towards Vergil at a continued rapid pace. He had still not yet drawn the Sword of Light, and as he neared his target...

His hand suddenly went to the Z-Saber on his back. Within moments, the Z-Saber was drawn but not activated; rather, Dark Digi-Soul exploded around his fist and into the weapon. A blade of his Dark Digi-Soul was formed, before being swung straight at his opponent.

Two weapons, rapid speed, and digisoul... This was more promising than much of what he'd faced before. Vergil shot Yamato out of its sheath to intercept Zero's first slash, and he gripped his sheath in preparation to block a second. In the next instant, he cut at Zero's face with his blade, a grin etched on his face as they settled into the battle.

"You two are making a huge mistake," SangLoupmon warned as he stalked around Mushamon, his bladed talons clicking on the ground with each step. "You didn't even kill him with your surprise attack. That's gonna cost you."

With his next step, SangLoupmon paused and dropped backward, rearing up and roaring "STICKER BLADE!" He slashed his paws through the air and sent a stream of blades flying in Mushamon's direction.

Zero jerked back abruptly, moving his head to avoid it being taken off, while slamming his heel into the ground to send himself flying back. The sound of a crack could be heard, and there was a noticeable slice in the side of Zero's helmet now.. but he paid it no mind. Hitting the dash booster in just one of his boots, he sent himself spinning around rapidly.

"LIGHT..."

His other hand drew the Sword of Light, a sudden burst of light energy erupting from the hilt. At first, it formed a rather MASSIVE blade from the initial explosion of power, swinging it at Vergil from the side.

"COME FORTH!"

Mushamon just... roared in response to SangLoupmon, rapidly swiping his sword in front of him to bat the rush of blades coming at him out of the way. However, several DID make their way through... but he didn't even seem to pay it much mind as they stabbed into his arms and legs.

Vergil had been expecting the attack, but even then his eyes widened momentarily in surprise. The attack itself wasn't surprising at all, but rather the weapon...

He raised the sheath of Yamato into the path of Zero's strike, and his eyes narrowed swiftly as the Sword of Light cut through it. The attack very nearly cut into his side, but Vergil released the sheath and dropped his hand, once again catching the blade of light in his hand with a very rare yelp of pain. But once again, even as the massive blade pulsed and hummed in his grip, the attack was halted.

"This is twice now," Vergil hissed as his hand was seared, and he cast the blade aside quickly and took a quick hop away from his foe, leveling Yamato's blade in Zero's direction. "Where did you find that weapon?"

Meanwhile, SangLoupmon snarled and burst apart in the face of Mushamon's charge. He reemerged from SangLoupmon's shadow, landing behind him and turning to snarl. "You can't even hear me, can you?! What a pathetic foe I have..." he growled.

Zero held both blades defensively, laughing a bit bitterly. It could be noted, of course, that he made certain not to directly CROSS the swords. "This sword... the Sword of Light... is the blade which slayed me in Tetha. I felt PRECISELY what it was, then... what it can do..."

He pointed the Sword of Light at Vergil. "It's a blade that will rend your very SOUL asunder."

Mushamon, for a second, stayed silent, immobile... "I... hear..." before spinning and lashing out violently towards SangLoupmon with his sword. "JUST FINE!"

The expression on Vergil's face went from calm, to dangerously enthused. "You should research your targets better then," he said darkly.

He kicked the top half of Yamato's sheath off of the ground and drove Yamato back into it. As the blade clicked into place, an arc of five full sized swords of blue light materialized above his head, all five of their tips aimed at Zero's face. "You see, I have no soul to rend ( ... )

In seconds, he sent the Digi-Soul Saber slashing before him as the blades neared. As they shattered, he yanked the Sword of Light away from Vergil and jumped back, holding both swords in a defensive position.

He seemed... mildly surprised, for a moment. At both blocking the Sword of Light as he did, and his method of attacking. Surprised, but... strangely enthused, at the same time.

"Heh, heh... you're right," he said, actually grinning in response to what Vergil just did. "Maybe I should... but, this does make matters... interesting..."

Mushamon scowled, growling angrily when SangLoupmon didn't reappear.

But, he didn't DO much else. Instead, he shoved his blade in the ground and... knelt down on one knee. Hand still gripping his sword tightly, he closed his eyes.

Listening.

Zero's strike shattered the blades with audible cracks like breaking glass. Vergil's enthusiasm seemed to dull as Zero fell back immediately afterwards, and he laughed derisively at his opponent. "I suppose you expect me to give away more of my techniques?" he asked with boredom. "Is that your path to victory? And here I was hoping for a challenge."

Vergil turned his body away from Vergil and cast his gaze on Mushamon. "Waiting as well," he observed, and he summoned another sword above his head. "Cautious. Deliberate. Pathetic."

He turned his gaze on Zero once more, silently challenging him as he sent the blade streaking towards his partner.

SangLoupmon was watching all of this from the tree. He too was remaining silent, watching and waiting for the opportunity to strike.
