"Oh hell, no," Shagon murmured as Darth Nerissa got free. "Matt, this is it! Do it now!"

"Don't need to tell me!" Matt said. "Everyone, get back! Full Release!"

When Jack had used it, he was able to unleash the powers of his zanpakutou. Matt hadn't gone through the shinigami training that Jack and Caleb had, so the unsealed power rerouted through his portion of the Heart of Earth, bringing it back up to full power.

It hurt just as much as always--the white-hot energy shooting out of his body as his hair grew out and wings burst out of his back. His mind, however, felt vaguely empty--the part that should have been there, especially in this form, was flying around in a Tsukaimon's form, essentially powerless. But when the light faded, the Regent of Flare was standing in the middle of the battlefield.

"Nerissa!" he shouted in fury before flying her way.

"You idiot!" Shagon yelled after him, taking chase.

"Oh bugger," proclaimed Jack as Matt charged Nerissa, rage filled in his masked eyes. "This isn't good. Sam, give me a hand here!"

The hobbit ran over, carrying what strips of cloth he found as Jack pulled the sword free with an audible slurching noise. "Get pressure on the wound, clot the bleeding," said Jack, wrestling with a pouch at his side.

"Yes sir," said Sam, applying what field medical knowledge he could. Silently wishing for Kingsfoil or Aragorn, or Aragorn WITH Kingsfoil as the brew could seemingly bring back anyone, Sam pressed down hard.

There was a pained, strangled gasp from Caleb and Sam pressed down even harder. "Don't move Mr. Caleb, you've been run through."

"Medical team to the Dragon, repeat, medical team to the Dragon. Code Red." commanded Jack into his radio.

Aye Captain! proclaimed Marty over the radio and there was some indistinct yelling in the background. Jack put his radio away and started spreading a water over the wound. "Ease up lad," he murmured

All Will knew was that Nerissa had been freed somehow, and that Caleb was hurt.

She saw Matt turn back into Shagon and start charging at the old sorceress. "Matt!" Will shouted, flying up to follow him, already gathering Quintessence and Flare in her hands.

Huggles followed behind her, howling shock waves shooting from his mouth as rioting digimon got close to them.

"Wait for me, Will! Let's go, Aquilamon!"

Hay Lin gathered a double essence of Air and Gravity in both hands while flying quite faster than either Will or Matt, since she was the Guardian of Air; Aquilamon doing his best to keep up with his Tamer while firing Blast Laser attacks at any other Digimon who dared to attack her.

Hay Lin could worry about Caleb's condition later, silently telling herself that stopping Nerissa was their top priority.

Her rage redirected, Nerissa loosed a wordless cry as she hurled a cone of quintessence at them, the lightning crackling out as an unruly storm. "YOU!" she screamed as Matt slammed into her, knocking her across the rooftop. "You three, coming to get in my way! AWAY FROM THE BOY, I COMMAND IT!"

Another crackling blast of Quintessence erupted from Nerissa's fingertips while the other animated a vent on the rooftop, ripping itself out of the moorings to hurl itself at them at top speed. "Away from my son, you have no right to keep me from him!"

"Face it, Mommy Dearest, you're not ordering anyone around," Matt said

Sam ducked, a bolt of Quintessence arching over his head as Jack growled into his radio. "Where's that medical team?!"

Sorry sir, there's a lot of air traffic to get through. The citizens have singled out the Pearl-- The static increased as distant cannon-fire was heard. We're going to have to lift off and bring the Pearl in manually!"Don't get a scratch on me Pearl Marty," ordered Jack, terminating the link. "How's he doing

Will threw blasts of both of her elements at Nerissa once she got close enough that she was certain she could actually hit the older sorceress.

"Matt's right!" Will shouted, landing on the ground and preparing another blast of flare. "You lost the right to claim Caleb as your family long ago!" And with that, Will sent the blast sailing in the former guardian's direction.

Hay Lin watched in awe as Aquilamon spun to avoid the earlier attacks of Quintessence and took that opportunity to land on the roof, thrusting both hands down and sending a combined blast of Air and Gravity toward Nerissa.

"Will's right! A mother would never threaten to cause harm to her own son like you did! Caleb's been a part of our family much longer to begin with."

"What do you know about family?" snarled Nerissa, Quintessence crashing from it to match the three-pronged attack. One got through and the woman was knocked across the roof. Arms crossed and smouldering, she added, "You haven't been torn away from all those who you love! Torn, for a mistake of jealousy and greed!"

Realizing that she might have said too much, Nerissa loosed a bolt that obscured the vision of her attackers. One hand levitated her digimon partner (why she felt she needed to save it was beyond her) and prepared to flee; arcane light glowing in her hands to open a fold to someplace safe.

"What the..." Matt started, but Shagon stopped him

As if echoing Matt's statement, the Pearl breached the clouds, several longboats filled with "arr"ing Pirates. Most of the crowd scattered, especially since the Pearl's crew was heavily armed. Many of them scattered, eliciting cheers from the ragged defenders. It was like Helms Deep all over again, reflected Sam, remembering stories of the siege that nearly cost all of Rohan's people their lives.

"Easy boys, easy," said Dr. Swann as he landed. "Steady on, let's get this young man into the infirmary. You there, hobbit. Give me a hand and sit on his legs to keep pressure applied."

Sam nodded as Bearmon devolved from Grizzlymon and joined the pair. "He's going to be all right?"

"Nothing but a few hours of surgery might cure," remarked Dr. Swann, getting a nod from Jack. "We'll return him as soon as possible."

"... wait," croaked out Caleb. "Let me say goodbye to my friends first."

"Of course mate," said Jack and beckoned the others over to him. "keep it short," he added softly, "this isn't a case where Bandages Fix Everything."

Will looked over at Caleb and flew over to him and gasped when she saw the blood. She knew earlier that he had been hurt of course, but actually seeing it now... "Caleb..."

Hay Lin landed near Will and practically had to force herself to look anywhere but where he was injured. Seeing one of her closest friends in this state after everything he'd done to help...

"...Come back to us soon, okay?" Hay Lin managed to get out, feeling tears well up in her eyes. "We can't open the Silver Dragon without you...or any of your Prinnies."

Caleb nodded, the words "I promise," on his lips as he passed out.

"Let's get him into the medical ward pronto!" barked Dr. Swann as the pirates began to work at cleaning up the area.

"We'll be taking a little retreat for now," said Jack seriously. "If you want to stay, I won't force you to come along."
