Why does cat hair have to fly everywhere?

I had another nice day with my doula client. I realized how much more I love maternal/child nursing when it is out of a clinical setting. Women are so much more empowered when they are out of that setting and especially when they are tended to by another woman or female-bodied person. I think it's the whole element of safety and comfort.

I love my client and her 2 kids. She stopped breastfeeding today and decided to pump and use a bottle. I was really disappointed because she was doing so well. Now that the baby is bottle fed, he is twice as gassy and cranky. I really wanted her to try breastfeeding again, but she was really sore and couldn't handle putting him on the tit every 2 hours. We make formula so readily available to new mothers in our society, and we make it easier for them to think that they are failures if they get tired of breastfeeding. I am hoping that she gives it another try, but it's so tough once the baby gets used to the instant gratification of a bottle. : (

She invited me to the bris on Monday. Yay! I get to shop for baby presents!!! She has a contracted doula who starts on Monday and she is hoping to split shifts so I can work her kids, too. I also have 3 jobs to follow up with on Monday. Doula work is drier than a summer day in Oklahoma lately. No one wants to spend the money with the way the economy is. *sigh*

Well, I am off to bed.
