Third trimester approaches (week 25)

So, you'd think that, since the first trimester is 12 weeks, the second would be at 24 weeks...but it's actually 27. I think because you're done done at 36, so they basically just added all the extra time to the second trimester? Dunno. Anyway, the second trimester is coming to a close, and I'm going to miss it...the third is well known to be the worst, that's when the back and hip pain sets in, you get really huge, and of course the heartburn wakes you up at night.

Of all of those, so far only the indigestion and getting bigger has happened. My stomach started hurting Monday after lunch, and kept hurting for several hours. I finally ended up going home early to lie down and take some Pepto Bismol. Of course, after I'd slept for an hour I realized with a clear head that I'd never actually gotten clearance to take Pepto Bismol while pregnant. Sure enough, it's a class C drug in first and second trimester, which means that while it hasn't been proven to do damage to human fetuses except in cases of very prolonged exposure, it's not something you should take unless the benefit outweighs the risks.

I'm sure I didn't do any harm to the baby by taking Pepto once or twice, but it's also sucks to find that out after you've taken it, because then I start imagining things. Like, I could swear the baby kicked less the next 24 hours. And also, Pepto is the best remedy for my really bad heartburn so that bums me out.

But since then the baby has been kicking a lot every day reminding me he's ok. You know, so far it just doesn't get old - seriously - if I'm at home I sit down and lean back and feel my stomach. He kicks every day when I wake up too - I've tried getting Mike to feel it but it's still hard to tell from the outside if it was my moving my stomach muscles or the baby. But it's just so cool, ya know? There's this little guy in there and he's doing gymnastics. Neat.
