HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIRL!

Nov 06, 2008 09:28

“If anyone objects to the union between these two people, speak now or forever hold your peace…”

The priest spoke those few words and then all chaos broke loose. There was a bang in the back of the silent church as the back doors flew open. Before anyone had a moment to react, the intruder raised his sawed-off and shot the bride in the gut with rock salt.

Jimmy stood speechless, going to help Chloe as she doubled over in her wedding dress. Lois sprang into action, grabbing her cousin before she fell over completely.

Clark turned quickly, eyes settling on the figure in the doorway. Anger was etched on the face of the uninvited guest. Though it had been years since their paths had crossed, Clark would recognize the cold determination in the man’s eyes - the same determination Clark had seen when aiding him in a hunt some years back when he was still in high school.

Once you met a Winchester, they were difficult to forget, much like the Justice League. Only Sam and Dean would never be caught dead prancing around in tights or unnaturally colored leather.

“Dean!” Clark Kent’s anger was apparent. He stepped towards Dean, eyes narrowed dangerously.

“Shut up, Kent!” He responded heatedly, stalking towards the front of the church. “Get out of my way!”

Clark used his advantage in build to block Dean’s path. “I’m not letting you touch her. What’s wrong with you?”

“That’s not Chloe!” Dean growled, motioning to the woman in between Lois and Jimmy.

Clark paused, cautiously glancing back. His thoughts over the last few weeks being voiced by a man that had been around Smallville and Chloe for less than a week years ago caused his suspicion that to surface.

“This is ridiculous,” Jimmy scoffed, holding on to Chloe’s arm. “Of course this is Chloe!” His gaze turned towards Dean, unfamiliar with the man. “I think you need to leave.”

“How do you know?” Clark asked Dean.

“Because I’m right here,” another voice called out. Clark looked up towards the doorway, seeing Sam Winchester and Chloe, obviously having just run in the church. She looked to Dean, exasperation written on her features. “You run into a church with guns blazing?”

“I couldn’t let you get married to Bow-tie over there.”

Chloe rolled her eyes. She lifted her hand, motioning to the exact copy of her standing in the wedding dress at the altar. “That’s not me.”

“Not the point,” Dean grumbled. “We don’t need to add polygamy to your list of-”

“Guys,” Sam interrupted. “Not the time.”

“Polygamy?” Jimmy shouted, looking between the two Chloe’s.

“If you’re Chloe,” Lois began, locking eyes with the Chloe standing in the aisle.

“Then who’s-?” Clark finished, gaze turning back to the woman who was now struggling against Lois’ hold.

“Why don’t you ask Lana?” Chloe responded. Her arms crossed as she looked to the woman sitting in the pew, who had grown increasingly pale since Dean had burst into the room.

“I don’t know what…” Lana began, eyes widened innocently. “I -….”

“Drugged me in the middle of the night and had me driven and dumped in some motel out in South Dakota?” Chloe snapped.

Clark looked up quickly at the mention of South Dakota. He remembered the Winchesters mentioning they had a friend out there during their previous trip. Chloe had always kept in contact with the Winchesters. She had probably phoned him when she found out where she was.

“That’s ridiculous! I would never do anything like that to you. You’re my best friend!” Lana cried, standing from her seat.

“No one else had access to Lex’s technology. ISIS was a front for his 33.1 experiments. Where else would you have gotten my DNA to make a clone?” Chloe spoke.

“You’re a liar!” Lana shouted. “After everything I’ve done for you…for our friendship…”

“You got scared when I found those files that you were trying to hide - the experiment results on the meteor infected people that came to you for help,” the blonde fired back, sparing no moment of sympathy. Chloe’s gaze turned towards Clark. “I was bringing them to you when I got grabbed from behind.”

“I have no idea what you’re-”

“Spare us the dramatics, Lang,” Lois said, eyes narrowed. She had clearly agreed that the woman she was holding onto was not her cousin. The past few months she had known something was off but had attributed the change in behavior to wedding jitters. This may be Metropolis but “clone” had not crossed Lois’ mind as a possibility.

“Clark,” Lana pleaded. “Surely you don’t believe.”

“I think my trust in you wore thin a while ago,” Clark admitted.

Chloe sighed, looking away from Lana. “I didn’t contact you because I was trying to piece together what happened and try to get the information back without Lana watching my every move. I didn’t think she’d sink to the point of making a clone to take my place.”

“You bitch,” Lana seethed. “This is ridiculous!”

“Think there’s gonna be a catfight? I wish we had some popcorn,” a voice spoke, causing some heads to turn. Bart Allen stood grinning at the back of the church, along with Oliver Victor and AC.

“What are you guys doing here?” Clark asked.

Chloe shrugged innocently. “I called ahead.” Her gaze shifted to Lana. “I wanted to make sure she’d still be here.”

The clone and Lana were taken into custody of the League. Jimmy had left, shaken and not speaking to anyone after he had attempted to speak to Chloe but had Dean blocking his path. The pastor had slipped back to the rectory, muttering something about a good drink. Lois accosted her cousin, apologizing profusely for not realizing things sooner and demanding that Chloe and the Winchesters stay for a while, at least until Lois got the whole story.

Chloe stepped out into the sunlight, walking out of the church with Clark who had remained calm through the aftermath.

“So, you’re married?” Clark asked with a small, surprised smile on his face.

Chloe smiled, giving a soft laugh. “It was one really strange night in Vegas…”

He looked over to the Impala where Sam and Dean were already waiting for her. “Are you happy?”

“Dean and I…well, we’ve got our fair share of issues, but…yeah.” Chloe glanced towards the car. “The sex makes up for it.”

“Chloe!”

She grinned brightly at his fluster, shaking her head in amusement. “You’re too easy sometimes.”

“Are you going to be hanging around here for a while?”

“For a bit,” Chloe agreed.

“Good,” Clark breathed. “Because you’re really going to have to tell me the whole story.”

“I don’t think even I can piece this mess together.”
