I got a few drawings done in the last week or so. This morning, I did a quick sketch based on work Tony Fucile did on
Helen Parr/ElastiGirl from
THE ART OF THE INCREDIBLES, the book my instructor let me borrow. He expects me to start incorporating background details in return. I think this drawing of
Mulan and Shang is the first I've done with two people in it and they overlap as well. I had to make a few adjustments as I went along, but the initial construction drawing wasn't far off from the final product. I see some improvement in proportion and accuracy, but I still have issues with facial features in 3/4 view.
From homework handouts, I did the line art for the skull of what I believe to be a
human male, based on the pronounced supraorbital torus. I decided to move on to the next class project instead of painting in a background on
this piece. I went into the studio for a few hours on Saturday, along with a few other students, because the teacher offered us another chance to get in some extra studio time, since he had to be in the office for some admin work. I spent it finishing up the initial sketch I started on Thursday for the next project, a
partial male nude. I got the all clear to start painting in the next class.
I took a break from the job ads this afternoon to go see the new film directed by Goro Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli, FROM UP ON POPPY HILL, at the IFC Center. I thought it was great! Here's a
trailer if you're interested in checking it out. It was shown as part of a film festival here in NYC, but it's getting a limited release in other cities in the US as of 3/15.
