10 years of fandom

How did I not know there was a Road House 2? Jake Busey and Jonathan Schaech I'm sure produce Oscar worthy performances.

crooked_halo8 posted the other day that she was going back and re-reading her favorite LotRps fanfic.  I've been wallowing in some old fandoms myself.

This year will be 10 years since I discovered fandom and fanfiction. I moved to Tennessee in 2000 and to fight off being homesick I got online and googled Buffy. What I came up with was Willow/Spike fanfic. I was incredulous that this kind of thing existed and instantly addicted. It took me awhile to move to slash but man once I did....

Then came Roswell, LotR, Popslash, HP, CSI, Bandom, the Stargates, Star Trek and so many others that have caught my fancy. Each one of these I fall back into for days and weeks at a time. My husband who is now fully aware of my fanfiction addiction comes home frequently and asks if there is fanfic for Nascar or Wrestling or some other thing he can' t fathom. I've explained to him that there is probably fanfic for the hunting show on PBS on Sundays but it's probably not slash. (however, if I tried hard enough I could probably find it) He knows he has no room to talk, he was thrilled when he got to have interspecies lesbian sex in Mass Effect.

Anyway, fanfic is my escape, much like stealing my Grandmothers Harlequin novels was as a 12 year old. I've read terrible stories, wonderful stories, stuff that still haunts me, things that I've forgotten but enjoyed, stories that I have gone back to time and time again. All of it fascinating because I don't have the ability or inclination to attempt it myself. Although there is a horrifying attempt at a Mary Sue on my hard drive that reached 8 or so pages and will never see the light of day, ever.

I may not post a bunch in LJ but I'm definitely reading, my delicious account is ever expanding and my love of all the possibilities that fanfic provides me with never ending.
