ok so I'm beginning to suck more and more at this... it's been almost a full month since I updated on here... none of you probably even read this anymore. I do still read all of your updates; I'm just pretty lazy about making any of my own.
Let's see. Since the beginning of March... the major update is that I have a summer job. I'm directing a six-week summer camp program at Selinsgrove Intermediate School. I'm really excited about it and have already been doing lots of work for it. In short, I'm the administrator and I do basically everything. Choose the staff (interviews are tomorrow and Wednesday... I'm looking forward to being on the other side of the table!!), write all the documents, coordinate all the field trips, write the curriculum (hopefully w/ the help of my staff), make contacts, etc etc etc. It's a heck of a lot of work, but I'm absolutely LOVING it so far!
My online courses (courses 3 & 4 for my ESL certification) are in full swing and will be completed at the beginning of May. My professors aren't that impressive... one of them last week, during an online chat, told us that "objective is a BUZZ word" in education and that "on those days when you have 5 minutes before a lesson, you can just pull one of these lesson plans out and teach it w/o any preparation." Anyone who's a teacher (or knows ANYTHING about education) will find fault with the above statements. In the online chat, Berneice (Brownell) jumped on the prof for her comments, and within 5 minutes, the prof, Berneice, and I were the only ones talking. It was hysterical. Then the prof admitted that she has no bkgd. in regular education (only ESL) and therefore she doesn't know anything about differentiation. *rolls eyes.* I'm freakin' 22 and more intelligent in this area than this woman. Why is she teaching me a graduate level course???????
Meanwhile, we're down to 44 day of school left! I'm getting a little nervous about next year, but I'm starting to work on some possibilities, so that won't seem so daunting later on (hopefully.) So much is in the works... I hope something pans out!
I'm looking to buy a laptop. I'm thinking my tax refund will fund a fair part of that, so does anyone have any suggestions? One thing - I refuse to go mac. I have my (probably stupid) reasons, but deal. I'm a pc girl, and I need my right mouse button, right-hand X, and keyboard shortcuts. It's just how I function. So sue me. :)
On another note, my family booked a beach house in North Carolina over the Fourth of July. I can't wait. My family, unlike some families, NEVER goes to the beach; my mom was always taking us "cultural places" growing up. ...Which was nice, but I would have loved to just chill on the beach for a while, you know?? So... Brian, Amy, Mom and I are going on our first vacation w/ the 4 of us to the Outer Banks. :)
I'm looking to schedule a trip to Florida to visit Jenn & her parents in August. We'll see if that happens; it all depends on what I'm doing next year -- my lease is up 15 August, so I may need to be moving around then. We'll see.
I have a two-day week this week at school. SO psyched about that! I'm spending Wed/Thurs in the 'grove for staff interviews, a meeting, cletus rehearsal perhaps, choir rehearsals, and a solo at church... then heading home to mom's for Easter weekend. I was originally going to go to Iowa over the weekend, but Steve is uber-busy w/ shows (they don't have an Easter break.) So I figured I'd wait til another time... but now I'm actually looking forward to going to Mom's. I haven't been to church there since the beginning of November, and I'm planning to sing a couple solos and stuff. I hope it'll be a fun weekend.
Don't think I mentioned... I got a couple pets since the last time I wrote. I got a betta named Blue and a hamster (I've never had a hamster before) named Treble. Basically, I call her "Trouble" because that's what she is -- she bites me! rude little rodent. :-P
Cletus has a couple gigs in the next month... if any of you are around, I'd LOVE to see you there! 12 April - TRAX (SU campus), 21 April - Zelda's (Lewisburg), 9 May - Chuck's Sports Bar (S'grove.) We have a couple new originals and some covers to add to our set lists, and I'm psyched about them. Jeff's new one "Real Life" is coming along well... and Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" is the newest one in my vocal rep. I love love love it! :-D
that's the deal from this end. hope you're all doing well... later, kids! :) ~L
